Hillsborough Community College Nursing Fall 2016

Published

Hey everyone!

I hadn't seen a thread started yet for the fall '16 entry to the program and thought I would start one, since the application deadline is only 2 months away. I'm excited and nervous about the process....just hoping my GPA is good enough to get in. I've taken the TEAS V and just finishing up my last pre-req to apply. I'm currently in North Dakota and will be retiring from the Air Force next year. So, that alone is frustrating since I have to call or e-mail with any questions.

Who else is applying?

Chris

Specializes in Pediatric Oncology, Pediatric Neurology.

I applied 4 years ago with a 3.71 GPA and was denied entry into the program, if that provides any insight. I even appealed my denial as a friend of mine was accepted (same applicant pool) with a 3.4 but the college stood firm on their decision without any basis, because- well they can do whatever they want to do at the end of the day. My story does have a happy ending, however, I'm a licensed nurse now so I'm not on here to complain at all but rather let you know it may be in your best interest to have a "Plan B".

What I will say is that the GPA "benchmark"- if you will, is set by current applicants and that changes every application deadline according to who's applying. Best advice I can give is please do not put all of your eggs in the HCC basket, especially if you're planning a big move across country in hopes of being accepted.

I sincerely hope you have better luck than I did and that others will contribute to your post to help with more up-to-date info as policies could have changed since my experience 😊👍🏼

Thanks for the insight. I lived in Tampa for 10yrs and own a home, the military moved me right at the end so I am coming back to Tampa anyway. I am also looking at some other options. Thanks again.

Hey there! Glad to see that someone has started a thread for the Fall 2016 entry  I just took the TEAS the other day and passed, Thank God! So relieved that's over with. Feels like it took forever to get to this point, but we are finally here!! Yay! Now to get accepted into the program :) I wonder what the GPA pool will be like?! I heard that it's usually higher for fall entry. Well, best of luck to everyone!!

Wow, that sounds stressful! I'm sure everything will work out for you though:up: And I know what you mean- this has been such a crazy, nerve wracking, yet exciting process! Which campus do you plan on going to?

Well good luck to you!

Excuse my grammar  meant to say that I have just taken the TEAS V. I'm tired, lol.

Glad to hear you passed the TEAS V. When I took it there was 3 of us and I know the one girl didn't pass. :( I'm just hoping my GPA will be good enough. I should end up with a 3.52. The took a class from a long time ago that I was going to CLEP that I got a C in so that had brought down my GPA, so hoping it will be good enough. I wish you luck in getting in.

I'm hoping for Plant City or Southshore.... How about you?

To be honest, I thought I bombed that crazy test! I studied above and beyond (mainly focusing on the sciences) and during the test, I was in complete shock with the science questions. I wanted to cry, lol. The questions were so random. And the reading section was tough for me also. I don't think that we are given enough time. I've been stalking this forum out for like 2 years now, haha, and I've seen a lot of comments on how everything on the exam was covered in the ATI manual... Whatt??? I sure as heck didn't feel that way. I also bought the practice exams and they were much easier than the real test. I guess I'm just disappointed that I didn't score higher (got a 70), however, I'm grateful that I at least passed.

Did you take your exam in N. Dakota? Your GPA should be good enough. One of the advisors told me that the cut off GPA for fall entry this year was 3.4.

I should be applying with a 3.8. Oh, and I also plan on going to South Shore or Plant City. :cat:

I came back to Florida to take the test and check on my house. I did well on the test and if that was a factor it would help (got an 82). I guess it all depends on how many people apply and what their GPAs are.

Hi all. just dropping a comment saying that I'm also applying for fall '16. Still deciding on my campus rankings because I've never been to any other campus but Brandon and the closest campus to me listed is Southshore(which I heard is really nice). For the moment, it really doesn't matter what campus as long as I get a seat. I really appreciate the starting of this thread. I've seen ones for the previous years and not seeing one for fall 2016 made me a little anxious. Thank you very much. :)

Hey Michelle. I know, I'm surprised that there isn't much activity in the thread for HCC's fall 2016 applicants. Maybe more people will start posting after finals are over with?

South Shore is a small and really nice campus. I've taken a majority of my classes there and like it the most. However, I'm not sure which campus has the "superior" program, as I've heard that Plant City was the best. Just like you, I also don't mind where I go as long as I'm in!!

Im curious as to what the GPA's will be like this time around... What is yours? If you don't mind me asking :cat:
