Hillsborough Community College Nursing Fall 2016

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey everyone!

I hadn't seen a thread started yet for the fall '16 entry to the program and thought I would start one, since the application deadline is only 2 months away. I'm excited and nervous about the process....just hoping my GPA is good enough to get in. I've taken the TEAS V and just finishing up my last pre-req to apply. I'm currently in North Dakota and will be retiring from the Air Force next year. So, that alone is frustrating since I have to call or e-mail with any questions.

Who else is applying?

Hello everyone I am a current hcc student I wont be applying for fall 2016 :( mainly because I didn't want to cluster my a&p 2 and microbiology together. Also I thought they had changed the nursing application deadline to May which won't be happening until 2017 so I am a bit upset about the misconception that was put on the website and later changed. However I have everything else except micro anyone already taken it how was it? I am applying in August for spring 17 hopefully with a 3.7 if I ace micro *fingers crossed. I have. aced every other prerequisite except enc which i got a c in years ago at another school and they wont let me take over. Goodluck to all of you I'm sure you all will get in they have lowered the required gpa to 2.8 for prerequisite classes and 2.0 for overall classes. I am doing my A.A also and the hcc/usf concurrent program if I can. Sorry for so much info lol :)

Hi everyone, back from the boulder that is the TEAS and finals and came out alive with an 84.7 and all A's for the fall semester! :D Thank you for all the luck and good vibes. Now just got to handle the money stuff and drop off the application.

For Future_Nurse17: welcome welcome! You made the right move with not clustering your sciences together. About microbio, take it from someone who has taken it in six weeks over the summer, you'll be fine. From what you said about acing all your pre-reqs, then microbio will be great. It's tons of fun, especially the labs. It's intense but you can handle it, don't you worry.

For all: good luck to everyone for the application process. I hope that we don't go crazy as we wait the dreaded 12-15 weeks. I hope we can keep up the communication whenever we can. Everyone's been super helpful. Good luck! :)

Wow that was an awesome teas score what was your study materials? Also how long did you study congratulations on having all A's on your finals you are sure to get in. I am proud of everyone surviving this process I know it will be long for me but I am motivated. I will be watching to see who gets in and I'm sure 95% of you will so congrats ahead :)

I took most of my pre-req from HCC. I am only familiar with teachers i selected that teaches those pre-req. For your Microbiology, I would recommend Dr. Smith. She is hands down the best and easy teacher. She is straightforward when giving test questions. She is very clear whenever she gives lectures. I just hope there is an available seat left for you since most, if not all, classes that she handles gets full (closed) quickly due to the fact that many students prefer her teaching.

I hope i can get accepted in the Nursing Program for i only scored "Proficient" (It's my fault though coz i didn't really study that much- I did not want to retake it because i was told that acceptance will not be based on TEAS scores but GPAs) on my TEAS, but with my 3.8 GPA, i believe there is a greater chance. I also asked the Nursing Admin. what my chances are with a proficient score on TEAS and 3.8 GPA, and she said that as long as i passed the TEAS they will not rank applicants based on TEAS score but with their GPAs, and she assured me that with a 3.8 GPA, it is more than enough for me to get accepted. But we will see.. I say, "Thy will be done Oh Lord". Good luck too all.

Thanks for the referral sadly there weren't any available with her as you said she must be a great teacher. I had to settle for a online micro class at dale mabry luckily there is no campus meetings because I am in the bradenton area closer to SouthShore. You have a wonderful gpa so are you more than likely to get in so congrats and I will be finishing with a 3.7 in hopes of getting an A in micro an lab so fingers crossed but I won't be applying for fall semester I will be apply for spring 17 sadly :( I am focused on this teas i want to do well but my overall goal is hcc/usf concurrent and then usf msn FNP after two years of experience as a RN/BSN nurse.

Hello, I'm new to this but I turned in my application for this fall yesterday. I'm super excited!!!! I passed the teas and I have a 3.7í ½í¸Š

Hi there! I dropped off my application about a week ago. Hoping I get accepted. Passed the TEAS V and have a 3.67 GPA. I am hoping for the evening's and weekend program. Does anyone have an idea when we will know about which program we are offered? Best wishes

@Future_Nurse17 For the TEAS V, I used the ATI Study Manual along with the help of the lovely people of allnurses and YouTube. I can definitely say that I studied for a month but before then I watched YouTube videos, read allnurses, simply absorbing. Every chance I get whether it was chores around the house or going to classes, it was just listening. This being said, I am mainly a visual learner but when you're balancing life and school, you have to utilize whatever time you have. Congratulations and be proud of your accomplishments this far, it is certainly not easy and I'm sure every goal you set, you will definitely achieve. Good luck to you. :)

Welcome to everyone that joined! In terms of knowing what the campus assignments are, according to the previous years, they will be given after our acceptance letters. Upon acceptance letters, students will either have the choice to decline or accept then campus assignments will be sent. This may be from students declining their seat and accepting elsewhere, alternates receiving letters, repeals, etc (this is all just patterns I've observed on the previous threads from HCC.) Good luck to everyone. :D

@crovanek I'm not quite sure but I hope we get in! I really want south shore but if not I heard we can switch with ppl

Thank you Michelle good luck and keep me updated on the nursing program I am a semester behind you and I am excited too see what it is all about and to everyone I am sure you all have worked hard to get to this point. I know I have heard you can trade with people before orientation but I think you have to get word from nursing which shouldn't be a problem but usually you get your first and second choice depending on if you are a first pick or not.

[(Respectfully snipped...) I won't be applying for fall semester I will be apply for spring 17 sadly :( I am focused on this teas i want to do well but my overall goal is hcc/usf concurrent and then usf msn FNP after two years of experience as a RN/BSN nurse.

Future_Nurse17, we are on the same exact path. My ultimate goal is NP and I want to complete the HCC/USF Concurrent as well. You've got a head start on me, though. I just decided to finally do this in the last month or so. I'd love to connect!

Anyway... Hi everyone! I hope you all don't mind me jumping in on your thread even though I won't make it by Fall '16. I am just starting with pre-reqs, and by "just starting", I mean classes start Monday and I just applied. I'm really hoping to knock pre-reqs out in time for Spring '17. The good news is I already have an AA, so I'm hoping some stuff will transfer. I function best when I've got myself backed into a corner, so here I am...

Lots of great information on this thread! I hope you all don't mind if I continue to lurk here. Good luck to all of you!
