Hello all HCC Fall 2011 hopefuls! I have been following the Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 threads and thought maybe it was time to start Fall 2011 now that the application process has started.
I just turned my application in this past week and received my confirmation notice in the mail. Anyone else out there that has turned in their application?
What are your plans over the next 8 months to prepare for the first semester (provided we get in)?
Hi to all! So, maybe they used my Trig grade instead of college algebra. That would give me a 3.88 instead of a 3.66. Whatever! I'll take it! So, who's taking the night program at the PC campus with me?
I took Eng. I twice. I took it once in 2001 at HCC and made an A. I took it again in 2007 through an online school (not realizing it was the same class because it wasn't labeled as so) and made a B. According to the academic advisor the committee would use my HCC grade which would give me a 3.81. If for some reason they used my latest grade my GPA would be a 3.67. No way to know which they actually used in their calculations.

Re: the GPA calculations for everyone who's still waiting to hear back...my 3.714 is pre-reqs only. If someone got denied with 3.7 GPA for pre-reqs, that's a strong case for appealing. On my pre-reqs I have all As except for my math, a C in precalculus algebra. No idea if they look at which classes were As and which were Cs (such as if they prefer As in anatomy & micro vs. english & math?) Hope that helps & good luck to you guys today!
Five months ago, when I found out how difficult it was to get into State College of Florida (formally Manatee Community College), I went to an informational meeting about the LPN program at Manatee Technical Institute . SCF's GPA cut off has been around a 3.8 (mine is a 3.71 for their prerequisites!). Anyway, let's just I'm currently filling out their application which is due by May 1st. Luckily, my boyfriend has already given me a physical and the first PPD skin test, so I won't have to complete the vaccines, etc. at the last minute.
I'm praying for simply an alternate seat at HCC now, but if I'm denied with my 3.57, then I'll be heading to MTI. At least with MTI, I'll be an LPN after a year and can start working. Then I'll apply for the LPN to RN program at SCF and shouldn't have a problem being accepted! It will take a little longer and cost a little more, but at least I have a back-up plan.

I was wondering if it is possible to accept that Alternate seat and then go for that Appeal process?
A friend of mine always applied to HCC Nursing program with a 3.14 GPA started back in 2009 up to now. He always offer an alternate seat, then later denied. This time HCC didn't even offer him an Alternate seat and they just gave him a denied letter...

Thank you Clemso. I still have a teeny, tiny shred of hope hanging on by a few threads. :) I very much want to get into HCC's program for this fall and I will appeal if I'm given a denial letter (I'll accept an alternate seat), but I'm okay with going to MTI for my LPN licnese. The more I think about it, the better it might be for me to attend MTI. I'll save in gas and I'll be closer in case of emergency with my son (2 1/2 years old). I would be driving to Tampa for clinicals (an hour each way), whereas with MTI, I'll be driving 10 minutes. I'll also be able to finish up at SCF, which is where I wanted to attend in the first place (again, 10 minutes away).

mg replied back about the orientation dates, here's her email:
there were some scheduling changes. the orientation will be held tuesday june 21 and wednesday june 22. an email will be sent out to all admitted students.
