Hillsborough Community College Fall 2011

Published

Hello all HCC Fall 2011 hopefuls! I have been following the Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 threads and thought maybe it was time to start Fall 2011 now that the application process has started.

I just turned my application in this past week and received my confirmation notice in the mail. Anyone else out there that has turned in their application?

What are your plans over the next 8 months to prepare for the first semester (provided we get in)?

Got my acceptance letter today!! I have a 4.0 GPA. My friend has a 3.7 GPA and was denied.

Oh my!! Tthornton, your friend had a 3.70 and was denied???????

was it a 3.7 on the head? was it 3.7 pre req? There are people here who have 3.7 that got accepted! Was your friend's gpa calculated correctly... that sounds a little.. no VERY far fetched!!! but if it's a legitimate denial then oh man competition is steep!! I hope my 3.714 makes the cut!!!

I hope you are right about the 3.7.....I have a 3.714 also but didn't get my letter today!!! I'm so stressed I don't know how I'm gonna sleep tonight!!

I hope so too.... MarkeyG got in with a 3.714 so... as long as things go well.... we should be fine... I'm praying my gpa gets calculated correctly!!!

What is stressing me now is that I repeated one class but only one time. I'm hearing when they replace your grade they don't affect your GPA unless it was your 3rd attempt at the class. Geez I hope that's the case.......:confused::confused:

Do you think they've calculated gpas and accepted them based on the school of choice? SCF does that between it's two campuses. If one person was truly denied with a 3.7 GPA, yet another was accepted with a 3.66 and yet another was given an alternate seat with a 3.57, then something wacky is going on!! Calculating based on school choice is the only thing I can think of.

I pulled this out of the health science rule book!!!

Repeating/withdrawing from prerequisite courses: Applicants may have 2 attempts

per prerequisite course taken after 1997 on their academic record without being penalized.

After two attempts, penalties are as follows:

* Minus .2 from the prerequisite GPA for each course attempted a 3rd time

* Minus .6 from the prerequisite GPA for each course attempted a 4th time

* Minus 1.2 from the prerequisite GPA for each course attempted a 5th time

* Minus 2.4 from the prerequisite GPA for each course attempted a 6th time

I'm thinking that something is up with thst 3.7... either a repeated course, a miscalculated on someone's part, or miscommunication about the gpa calculation... not completely sure she realized that it was a pre req gpa.... HCC doesn't do preference on location... if that was the case i wouldn't have applied LOL

I'm thinking that must have been a cum GPA in which mine is 3.88 but they use pre req GPA only. To the best of my knowledge they do not do it based on campus choice. They do it overall and then assign campus after appeals process is over. Campus assignment is based on GPA also...supposedly they go in GPA order and when they get to your GPA if they have available seats at your 1st program choice then you get it if not then you get your 2nd choice && so on....

Thank you for the info!!! I should be okay then, I only had to retake 1 class and only 1 time!

I don't want any potential class mates worrying when they don't need too...
