Published

Hello all HCC Fall 2011 hopefuls! I have been following the Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 threads and thought maybe it was time to start Fall 2011 now that the application process has started.

I just turned my application in this past week and received my confirmation notice in the mail. Anyone else out there that has turned in their application?

What are your plans over the next 8 months to prepare for the first semester (provided we get in)?

all of my docs are showing up as received!!! EXCELLENT... Maybe we'll hear something soon. Especially since it Pre-requisites are part of the mydocuments. now... if only they would post the grades up under that ranscript secdtion... that'd be perfect... ah well... hopefully end of the month early March we get an answer!!! Good luck everyone!!!!

oh yea i got an email too because i was worried about the my documents, and here is what was said (for those who are stilling not received)

thank you for submitting your health science application. we understand that you are anxious to hear from us, and will do everything possible to inform you of your status as soon as possible. due to the number of applications being submitted, we ask that you allow us 6-8 weeks from the application deadline date to completely enter all of your documents. during this process, please follow the below instructions to check the progress of your application

to see the progress of your application file:

thank you for your cooperation,

ms. martinez

health sciences admissions office

all of my documents are now said "received" !! Thank God

I too have received the generic email from Ms. Martinez, however, I'm getting a little stressed out because I still have only one thing that says "not received," my "Nursing Prereqs." This concerns me, because I feel like they're overlooking something. I'm in contact via email with a Maribel who said she would look over my file to make sure there isn't anything out of place. Ugh! This is giving me a headache!! Is it March yet?

Happy Valentine's Day!! :flwrhrts:

Hi Eyoung, Don't get stressed they probably just have to go back to the other college's catalog to look at that Micro course to make sure it's the same.

When my advisor submitted my courses to the dean's office before I applied, they had to order some USF academic catalogs they didn't have and it took weeks. They use the course descriptions from the old catalogs to determine if they are the same as the HCC pre-reqs.

Hang in there, the weeks of waiting will fly by !!! :)

Thanks Morpheus. You're probably right. I didn't know they actually did that! This was the only microbiology course offered at SCF and it's also a prerequisite for SCF's nursing school. I can't imagine that HCC wouldn't accept it. I do have an email from an HCC advisor, saying HCC would accept SCF's microbiology course for Nursing School.

But Oh JEEZ! I can't wait! I just want it say "received." Once that happens, I'll be okay for the wait. Actually, I'll probably stress out over the GPA calculations, but I'll definitely feel better than I do now.

Hi Eyoung,

I kept all the e-mails regarding the acceptance of pre reqs from my advisor also as I have no idea what the admissions folks will decide. LOL.

Anyway here is a simple GPA calculator you can use:

http://www.back2college.com/gpa.htm

IIRC they use the highest course that meets the pre-req if the grade is higher than the lower level course. So if you took calculus and got an A they would use that in their calculation. At least thats how it was explained to me..... who knows it's HCC where administrative confusion is king. LOL

Hi again! It's a 3.57 anyway I calculate it. I wish I got an A in calculus, but alas, it was only a B. :( I probably would have tried a little harder way back when, if I had a clue I would be attempting to get into such a competitive program like this!

It looks like I'll be continuing my education even after nursing school, so I'm going to have to make sure I ear all A's while in nursing classes. A lot of the NP programs I've looked at calculate your last 60 hours for your GPA. My boyfriend, who is a PA, wants me to eventually get into a PA school (rather than NP school), so I'll have to make A's for that too.

I'm going to be in school forever...as long as I can get accepted into this program!

I noticed something weird. I can all of my classes under the transcripts section so thats good... but they didn't put my science courses in the slots... only my english math etc. so my anatomy and micro are under the other courses ie excess credits... Does anyone else have this same situation? I shot an email to the health science dept. because that just seems odd. And also my Micro course is MCB 2010 hopefully that will suffice because thats the only micro class my school offered and it was general microbiology.... now i'm worried AGAIN ugh

Okay so now things are weird... I just went into my degree audit and manually selected Nursing ADN/Basic option from the drop menu and it has ALL my pre reqs intact and ready to go (uber excited). Now, if i click the bubble that says applicant it doesn't show the courses. Weird but at least I know that they don't have to dig around because it already shows up in our degree audits!!! Oh man.... I so need these letters to come out!!! :-) Happy V-day and the wait is ALMOST over

My is the exact same. Except I think in your previous quote you mentioned your micro course and anatomy courses weren't showing. My micro shows completed but not my anatomy courses. Just like yours, my anatomy courses show in the addtl section but show "Not Started" in the degree audit. Weird, but I'm not too worried. Probably just some kind of kink. Good luck!

I'm hoping it's a kink in the system as my audit doesn't show any courses started but I took all my pre-reqs at USF. I'm not going to rely on web advisor too much as I think that they probably just don't keep the system up.
