Hello all HCC Fall 2011 hopefuls! I have been following the Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 threads and thought maybe it was time to start Fall 2011 now that the application process has started.
I just turned my application in this past week and received my confirmation notice in the mail. Anyone else out there that has turned in their application?
What are your plans over the next 8 months to prepare for the first semester (provided we get in)?
markeyg: Wow, 10 years in the making! I just decided last April that I was going to go back to school because I needed a change. I took both A&P I & II in the summer last year (overlapping on two campuses) and took Microbiology and sociology this past fall semester. It was a load of work, but I finished with A's in all of those classes. I felt like my head was going to explode. Actually, I started feeling like information was draining out the back of my head to make more room for what I was learning in class. I can't believe you're expecting a baby in July! Congratulations!! Will you be working
And yes, my bf is a true blessing. He's the most unselfish and thoughtful man that I've ever met. I don't think that he's human most of the time. And even though he's never been a father, he stepping right into that role when he met my 2 year old. He's the best dad, without technically being my son's dad.
Love78: All of my docs showed up as being "not rec" yesterday. From reading prior forums, it looks like it's going to take another month to show up as being received! Ugh! I read one post about a woman who went to USF and submitted her transcripts, but her application was entered incorrectly and showed that she went to FSU. HCC said she never submitted her FSU transcripts when she didn't even go there! It's so scary not having any control over what's being entered in their systems about us. Especially when it comes to GPA calculations.
I was positive, at least until the counselor I talked with told me I had no chance of getting in and was wasting my time applying. Her words, not mine. I applied for the transition program (which i thought was less competitive) with a 3.5 but she dropped it down to a 3.2 bc I took college algebra twice. If they'd just use my statistics grade I'd be golden but no luck there. The counselor looked at my transcripts, which is mostly A's, a few B's, and one C, LAUGHED at it, and said, "And WHAT program are you trying to get into with THESE grades? Ha!" Needless to say, my bubble was burst. Hope I don't sound too much like a Debbie Downer, but after devoting the last two years of my life to pre-reqs, I feel like i wasted my time.
Best of luck to everyone else however! :)
WOW!!! Your advisor was pretty harsh!!! I'm pretty sure that you can sub MAC1105 with a higher math. Stats codes differently but if you took maybe Pre cal or Cal for sure (both coding as MAC) they could switch it out. But w/ a 3.2 I can understand your feelings!!!! You could find some schools that will allow you to get in w/ out penalizing you for MAC retakes. Other than that if that doesn't work out you ALWAYS have LPN-RN route.... Have you thought about transition programs outside of Tampa... You can be an RN regardless... The advisors are there to guide and advise no to crush and discourage... Shame on them but keep your head up and keep looking for transition programs that won't knock you for your math retakes!!!

Thanks eyoung! Yes, I'll continue to work but my job is fairly easy for the most part (claims), and I'm nudging my boss to swing a work at home schedule by sometime this summer.
How the heck did you survive both A&P 1 & 2 in one semester, much less a condensed summer one!?! That's good practice for the massive info dump that I suspect awaits all of us in the nursing program

I completely agree, for an advisor to spew venom like that speaks more about her than you. And not to give empty hope or false cheer, lovinglife, but another hopeful nursing student I met at campus once said that a friend of hers got in with a 3.14 or 3.16 GPA. So anything can happen. Plus Shamanai has a good point re: the bridge programs. Since most of the classmates will already have had 'field' experience, the learning experience in those programs are that much more enhanced.
