Good day:
Welcome to allnurses.com
Get the color books -- https://allnurses.com/nursing-student-assistance/coloring-book-806186.html
Check if you can get a copy of the syllabus from the professor in advance; see if you can get the text books in advance (check amazon.com, abebooks.com and other sources for cheaper books). Also ask the professor if you can record lectures; and then if yes, get a digital recorder if you don't already own one.

Try to do your chapter(s) reading in advance of the class. Take good notes, rewrite (or retype) your notes (hopefully same day), re-read the chapter(s) you went over in lecture. Be sure to block out at least two hours of study time for every one hour of lecture time. Labs often have reading requirements; so be sure to stay on top of those as well -- before the lab.
See if your school has any workshops on time management, reading text books, test taking strategies, etc. Then take those workshops.
Thank you.

Do all extra credit offered. Read the chapter summaries at the very least if you can't read the chapter before lecture. Do the homework/self assessments in the book. My biggest piece of advice would be to show up to every class. If you show initiative, and do well, that professor will have no problem writing you a reference letter to put with your nursing application, whether references are required or not. My A & P II instructor wrote me one, and I think it put my application over and above some others because refs were not required so most likely most people didn't include any.

The coloring books took too much time for me, but definitely get flashcards and carry them with your everywhere or find an app or website that will quiz you.
Whenever I had down time (waiting in line, shopping with my family) I would review the anatomy. I aced all of my lab exams and got an A in the class.

Welcome to fun! lol
From what I've understood(I'm taking AP in 3 weeks), the best thing is never get behind. Always learn your information. Oh, and get a coloring book. A lot of people told me about that one. Other than that, I'm not sure! I'm contemplating memorizing some systems now, instead of waiting for class, so I can have already been exposed. I'm also reading lecture notes ahead of time.

Go to every class.
Read before class & review notes after every class.
If your school offers a study lab, use it.
Form a study group if it helps you.
Study a little bit every day.
Take pictures of the models with your phone & either print them or load them on your computer. Label them accordingly.
Thanks for the advice! So what did you have to do for the lab part?

Lab is a lot of looking at models and dissection. At least at my school, that's where the majority of our anatomy knowledge is tested. Yes, there are still anatomy questions in lecture, but more or less lab is the hands on learning of anatomy. You also get to practice microscope knowledge, and identifying things through a microscope. Oh and lab reports and lab drawings...at least at my school!
Like everyone else said, be at class. That's the first step in succeeding. My next piece of advice, just because you are there doesn't mean you are present. There are so many people in my class who complained because of their grade, while they slept through class. Be prepared for class, find out what materials you learn best with and use them! The anatomy flash cards didn't work for me, but coloring did. I know people who did the exact opposite and did well too. It's all about your learning style. Another thing, YouTube. There are so many lectures and tricks I used from YouTube, to help comprehend the difficult stuff.
Our school has a packet of pretyped notes you can purchase. They are great! My school also has course information and study sheets available at our course online site. If you can answer and comprehend all of those questions you can do well. See what tools your school has in place, and USE them!
