Herzing PMHNP

Nursing Students NP Students

Updated:   Published

Hi Everyone!

I finally found the school I really want to go to! I have applied to 3 other schools and backed out for this or that reason. There was just a bad feeling. This program has made me feel super comfortable from the beginning and they seem to be so organized which makes my nerves much more calm. I am super excited to start in November in the PMHNP program. Would LOVE to connect with other students in the same situation. Online classes are awesome, but would really like to connect with other students. in the same situation.

I currently work inpatient psych 12 hr shifts and starting to network for preceptors now. I hear we start semester 3 with clinical so trying to stay on top of my game.

Can't wait to hear from you all! I live in st Louis, MO btw. Where are you all?

That sounds about right. They are not bad at all. Just 250-300 words for most. Each class has 2 a week and then 4 responses needed total. So 4 and 8. I work 3 12s a week and work on it on all my off days, but I have been enjoying it. The classes you are taking will probably be a bit more intense though.

Thanks for the response. I appreciate hearing all aspects. It would help to hear feedback on my first two classes but I only work 4 days a week 8 hour days from 5am to 1pm so I’m hoping that will give me ample time to give to school. Thanks again!

Hello,

Would love to hear how people are securing preceptors when you start clinicals early in the program compare to other programs where you don't start until the second year?

Start looking before you start the program. You can request a list of locations students have used in the past from the clinical coordinator. Tell every nurse you know that you are starting an NP Program. You could get leads that way. You can also check facebook and LinkedIn. If you fail to find a preceptor on your own you can pay for a preceptor.

Hello,

So for the health assessment class, you have to find a preceptor in a primary care or urgent care setting, not mental health? If so, how did you guys secure a placement so quick since they start usually on the 2nd semester, esp with Covid19? Looking at Jan 2021 start date.

@stephadler82

I started the program in November and I am currently in the process of securing a placement for May and September. The application deadline for May is February 9th so start looking before you start the program. You need 45 hours for health assessment in primary/urgent care.

Thank you. Also, does anyone know how the 130 hour on site immersion is done? I live in CALIFORNIA so I am curious how long I would have to travel to Herzing. ?

There is no 130 hours on-site immersion. You have to complete 180-hour immersion experience in NU 675. It's just a clinical course. There is no on-campus requirement.

Sorry 180 hours. The rep said "on site" immersion so I was confused by that and thought maybe it meant on campus. What does the immersion experience mean then?

It is the last clinical of the curriculum and it requires 180 hours. The other clinical courses are either 45 hours or 90 hours.

Also, be sure when you are setting up your preceptors that you know you can only use the same preceptor twice. I start 1/11/21 but, when I spoke with my advisor they did not mention an "immersion" that is on-site at the campus so I will be interested in seeing the replies. Has anyone done the process through the link for their facility and preceptor approval? If so, is it user friendly....your thoughts and feedback would be greatly appreciated.

There is no onsite requirement. I am in the process of gathering information from a preceptor. When I am finished with the process I will provide an update.
