Herzing PMHNP

Hi Everyone!

I finally found the school I really want to go to! I have applied to 3 other schools and backed out for this or that reason. There was just a bad feeling. This program has made me feel super comfortable from the beginning and they seem to be so organized which makes my nerves much more calm. I am super excited to start in November in the PMHNP program. Would LOVE to connect with other students in the same situation. Online classes are awesome, but would really like to connect with other students. in the same situation. 

I currently work inpatient psych 12 hr shifts and starting to network for preceptors now. I hear we start semester 3 with clinical so trying to stay on top of my game.

Okay, thanks everyone. Got more clarification. Not sure what the difference is between the other mental health clinical hours and the immersion. Tried to get clarification and all I got was something about helping me in the real world work setting. Isn't that what clinicals are? Hmm. Also makes me nervous that I have to find a preceptor so quickly with this being a new program. Hmmm...

Hi @ednurse17! I'm also from NC and considering Herzing for their PMHNP program. I understand you did the FNP program. May I ask if you feel prepared for your new role? Any negative response to your Herzing degree? Did you have much difficulty finding preceptors? Thanks in advance!

I am starting the PMHNP program at Herzing next month. I am excited and scared at the same time especially with some reviews I have read. I will be going full time so as to finish in 24months. I work 3day 12hr shift in an acute care hospital. How challenging is the full-time path for anyone that has been through it.  Any response will be appreciated.

Hey everyone,

Is there anyone doing the RN to BSN to MSN, or RN to MSN? I have my ASN & trying to figure out which path to take. I do work F/T 3 12hr shifts as a Psych RN, & have 3 kids 16, 14, 8. If anyone can give me a run down on either program when it comes to amount of work & time to complete, I'd appreciate it. I just want to make sure it's doable.

I would go somewhere else. They don't help with clinical placement at all.  I would recommend going to state universities.

I'm currently a pmhnp student. I'm so disappointed with this school, they don't help with securing preceptors. If I could turn back time, I would rather go to a state university or non-profit school.

I’m sorry they were unable to help you. I have secured a clinical site before enrolling in anticipation of this issue. I hope moving forward things get better for you.

Does anyone have any insight into the program? I have scheduled with an advisor twice now and both times have not received a call. I have searched the website for application requirements but have been able to find how many references you need or if you need a personal statement etc. When I try to call they do not answer my questions and instead try to set up another time for a call with an advisor who I can never get in touch with. Herzing was one of my top choices and had seen alot of good things about the program but every other University has all of their requirements listed and with Herzing I am getting nowhere. Just starting to think this is a bad sign and a glimpse into how the school really is when I can't even get clarification before I submit my application. Any feedback is appreciated good or bad, and if any one can help me with what the application requirements are please. Thank you!

The website should have all the requirements listed. I don’t remember needing any references or paying an application fee. I do know they want you to speak with an advisor before completing an app. The call take about an hour. I guess they want to weed out people that may not be appropriate.
