Hi all,
So I'm starting LPN School in Sept and have been to the doctor to can my physical and vaccinations signed off. I had the 3 series of shots for hep b when I was 17. I'm now 28. My doctor wants proof of this which I don't think is unheard of however I moved countries 4 years ago and the doctors office back home is no longer there and I am not able to get a copy of my injections. She also said she can't test to see if I'm still covered for hep b either and won't do a titer. What am I supposed to do? A nurse I work said I would probably need a booster cause it's been over 10 years but my doctor said she can't do that either. Should I find another Doctor?

You can get a titre and see what your antibodies are like. So is there no where else you can go to get a titre done? I had my course in the late 80's and had a titre done roughly 2004 and no booster was required

Definitely get a titer. After having the whole series, you shouldn't need a booster. See if your health department or university health service does them.

Huh??? That makes no sense! Of course you can get a titer. I was vaxed at 17 and my titers were still good when I was tested at 34.

If you are currently enrolled in summer session and have paid a student health fee, go to the health office and see if they will do the titre for you. That's how I did it because my doctor too was no help.

I agree with everyone else....find a place that can do the titer.

Its sounds like your physician is crazy. Of course a titer can be done for hepb. I just had it done.... at a lab. There's no way in heck I'd be going through the whole series again if I didn't need it. Those shots hurt like heck afterwards.

Yes, find a new physician or ask them WHY they will not do a titer (may simply be a misunderstanding?). Your local public health office may also be able to do titers.

Get a titer done. Does you school offer health services? That's where I had to go to get my stuff done cuz my dr refused to any of the required stuff ( long story). Of course I had to pay out of pocket but it was well worth it!

Your Doctor should be able to write an order for a titer, which will be done at a lab (like LabCorp). Not sure if they meant that they couldn't do it (since they are not a lab), or if they won't write you an order.
If they won't write you an order, find a new doctor. Shoot, my NP at Kroger wrote my titer order, and gave me all of the shots I needed.
Not sure why this Doctor is being stupid.
