Help please I am wanting to get my RN online

Published

I am wanting to get my RN online but the problem with that is all of my credits that I got from the LVN school do not transfer. I am from Texas and I just need someone that could point me in the right direction. I work full time and I am a mom of 2 so any help will be great. I have looked into several programs but then I hear bad things on them.

So if your LVN credits will not transfer, you are starting from scratch, right? Unfortunately, there are no 100% online nursing programs- because of the required clinical component. Have you looked into Online University | Online Degree Programs | WGU pre-licensure BSN program?

The didactic portion is online and the clinicals are more consolidated. It is available in TX, IN, CA,UT and (?) WA.

I agree with PP, if your LVN credits didn't transfer it looks like you will need to start from square 1. As of right now, and hopefully forever, there are no completely 100% online nursing programs.

Most 'LVN credits' that were earned at clock-hour-granting vocational schools do not transfer to other schools seamlessly.

However, most land-based LVN-to-RN transition programs get around this issue by granting the LVN advanced placement and/or a generous amount of en bloc credit for the simple act of possessing an active LVN license. This cuts at least one year off the amount of time an LVN spends in school pursuing the RN license.

What part of Texas are you from? There are many reputable LVN-to-RN programs in TX. You will be granted advanced placement and/or en bloc credit for your LVN license, but your expectations might be out of alignment with reality if you took A&P or micro at the clock hour vocational school and expect regionally accredited community colleges and state universities to accept them for transfer credit.

I completed an LVN program at a clock-hour vocational school. Although I had to retake the A&P and a few other prerequisite courses at a community college, I was granted advanced placement and a year's worth of nursing credit for possessing an LVN license. Therefore, my LPN-to-ASN program was only a year long.

I'm in Texas. Completed my LVN at a local junior college. Am currently doing to LVN-RN program through excelsior college. The classes are online and you have a clinical exam at the end called the CPNE. Do some research on it. Btw a quick google search would've given you this option.

I do not know of any LPN/LVN bridge courses that are completely online...I thought you had to do more clinical rotations to make up the required clinical hours...??

Most bridge programs are 12-18 months long. I went to a school that accepts just about all credits I believe for LVN regardless of the school you went to.

Excelsior does not require extra clinical hours.

Your workplace provides the clinical experience, but i could be wrong.

No, excelsior is for those already working in healthcare who have experience. The only "clinical" is at the end for the clinical exam (CPNE). The CPNE is a 3 day high stress skills performance exam. There is no teaching done at the CPNE. It is pass or fail you either can perform to the Excelsior standards or you fail. Your particular workplace does not have anything to do with the school.
