I am currently in an accelerated RN program, we are in our 3rd semester (1st semester of actual nursing classes) I am currently taking pharmacology & failing. I feel like all I do is study but am still failing.. I need ideas, ways to learn the information & drugs, I've come too far, & have WAY too much money racked up in loans to fail now....

I am starting an accelerated program in January and am really nervous about pharmacology as well. I was told to buy the Davis drug guide...if you have not already. Also, if you have an ipod/iphone there is an app you can buy that is a davis drug guide app for nurses that supposedly is very handy and helpful as well. It is expensive though (like $40) but if you are having that much trouble it may be worth the money. I wish I could help you more....I will be in the same boat as you soon enough.

Well, so far what has been helping for me is that I bought the Davis Drug Guide for Nurses. It came with a cd that has some wonderful helpful tools. It has a thing called med deck where you can look up the drugs you need to know and print out the pre-made drug cards. Printing out the pre-made drug cards has saved me a TON of time so I don't have to make my own cards. You can also buy them pre-made at Barnes and Noble. I also love the podcasts on Davis's website. Those have helped me alot.

This may sound silly, but focus on trying to make your own memory enhancers. rhymes work great as do plays on words etc. You can also create word documents with pictures and associations. You can do this throughout the nursing program. It really helps it stick. Sometimes the dumber ones are more memorable. Last one I did was for my pathyphysiology class. We are studying cardiac diseases. The last of my reading was on the various anginas.
Prinzmetals angina - caused by arteries that spasm.
Calcium Channel Blockers are used to treat
Prinz sounds like "prince"
People go into "spasms" when prince walks on stage
Can yall c em going spastic?
Can yall c em (sounds almost like calcium)
Okay, now I'm embarrased but I wanted to let you know not to be afraid to play with words and things will stick!

What EJM said. Find ways to make it stick. I think they stick better when I make my own up!
