I have been accepted into an ADN program. This is my second degree and have almost run out of loans. Does anyone know how I can get money for school? I don't qualify for grants. I llooked into nursing scholarships from surrounding hospitals in exchange for working with tr m after graduation but most of them don't offer it any more. Please help.
I am in the Jackson, Mississippi area
Wow, I am honestly grossed out by some of the responses you received. Disrespectful and unnecessary.
Never give up! There are always more ways to get money for school. Always always always. I've changed majors about three times and still haven't had to pay out of pocket for school. Keep looking!:) You're doing a GREAT thing by continuing your education. It's honorable to decide that there's a better career out there. So many people settle for a career just because they spent so much time obtaining a degree. As long as you're living and breathing you can always improve your life.
I don't know you, but I'm proud of you! Congratulations on getting into your program! :)
Hey dear. I'm sorry that you recieved such rude and useless comments from some posters. People get REALLY snarky when they have the anonymity of AllNurses on their side. I understand that you are in a tough situation, perhaps a delay of 1 semester would allow you the time you need to work extra hours and save up for school, one semester at a time. It takes money to make money, but nursing school is a great investment! I really hope everything works out for you.
Oh, but this isn't rude?
Sometimes people need realism. They need to understand the magic money fairy isn't coming to pay for school. I told the OP private loans. That's her option right now. But it's also important to keep in touch with financial aid.
I don't spout unicorns and rainbows up people's butts. I give them good, solid advice. Karma and positive energy doesn't pay for school.
Well everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Like I previously stated I appreciate all the information that was posted. There is nothing more to say about the situation. Either the school will grant me some scholarships or I will pay it out of pocket. Either way it's going to get paid. I refuse to have a negative outlook on the situation because that's not the kind of person I am. Everybody deals with things their own way and I just have a different outlook on life. It hasn't failed me yet so I'm going to smile and enjoy life and things will fall into place like they always do.

I don't see any rudeness in that particular post. She was very encouraging.
Suggesting private loans is one thing, but implying that she's looking for undeserved handouts is extremely rude. She's asking about grants, scholarships, and loans. All apart of going to school. Some of you are acting like she wants a loan to pay for plastic surgery. This is her future.
You think you're giving advice, but your actually being quite condescending. And it's not just you.
Bachelor of Science in History? Bachelor of Arts in History. Listen, I'm not trying to beat you up, but what did you really expect to do with that degree? Teaching is about it. Unless you go for your Masters or Doctorate in History, you won't get into a museum or anything which is about all you can do with that degree. This country needs some great high school history teachers. I'm a history buff myself and it makes me sad that current kids don't understand the history of this world and because of that we are destined to not learn from history, but repeat it. But there is not a whole lot else you can do with that degree. Why on earth would you major in that if you had no interest?
And what was useful about this comment? Other than to be mean and condescending? What if history is her passion, but isn't a profession that is as lucrative as nursing & you just crapped all over something that meant alot to her. She came here for advice and encouragement. She didn't come here to be lectured by mean-spirited, bitter people. She also didn't come here to be judged for her past decisions.
OP YOU ROCK! I love your perseverance and your spirit of drive. Never ever let mean people get you down. If you want to do nursing, I have no doubt that you will find a way. I am extremely proud of you.
Thank you. There have been so many people way before I posted anything on this website who told me I would never get into nursing school. I didn't listen to them and I sure as Heck won't listen to anyone on this site. Life is what you make it and I refuse to let someone who doesn't even know me break my spirit and make me feel like I don't deserve to a nurse because I asked for financial help.

I will ill tell you exactly what was helpful. Telling her what she can do with her current degree to help save for her next one.
Whats not encouraging about saying this country needs some great history teachers? That's a very positive comment.
The OP said without her masters or doctorate there isn't much else she can do with her degree. Um, that's exactly what my previous post said. Thus, I'm telling her the correct and realistic information.
Maybe karma and positive energy put money trees in your backyard. Nope, they don't.
Teaching is not an option for me because that's not my passion. So many teachers out there don't care about the students. They are just there to get paid. I refuse to take a teaching postion from someone out there who really want to teach and make a difference. We all know that money doesn't grow on trees but as I stated earlier there is nothing more to say about the situation. In January I will begin working on my ADN and I won't look back.

I referring to one person's comment not everyone that left suggestions. What the point of getting on here and being rude? I'm pretty sure this site was created as a way to encourage and educate nursing students and nurses. Some of the things that the previous poster stated were irrelevant. I just wanted advise on getting extra money for school she took it out of context when she starting going on about loans. What exactly the point? I know my loan situation better than her so that's why her information was irrelevant. I appreciate all the great advise and information that was posted.
