I have been accepted into an ADN program. This is my second degree and have almost run out of loans. Does anyone know how I can get money for school? I don't qualify for grants. I llooked into nursing scholarships from surrounding hospitals in exchange for working with tr m after graduation but most of them don't offer it any more. Please help.
I am in the Jackson, Mississippi area

Check with your school's financial aid office to see if there are school/program specific scholarships you qualify for. Also work and save as much money as you can in the mean time before the program starts.
Thanks for responding verene. I am in the process of doing that now but I don't know if that will be enough to cover everything. I am trying to save as much as possible.I got my acceptance letter at the beginning of December and the program starts in January so I don't have that much time.

How were you expecting to pay for the program when you applied?
I didn't know that i wasn't going to get loans until after I got accepted into the program. I thought I had enough money left but the school told me that they wouldn't allow me to take out any more loans because based on my future earning as a nurse plus my outstanding loans I would potentially end up defaulting on all my loans.

Uh yeah. My aunt had to deal with this when she cosigned for her niece who didn't pay and defaulted. It all landed on my aunt and it's not right for something like that to happen. If you have a degree please work in that field then go back to school when you can pay it..there's no magic cash stash. I wish there was, I wish everyone had an opportunity for college.
Only other thing I can say is look for scholarship opportunities for impoverished areas if that applies? I know one city that nursing students can get large scholarships since it's considered a poverty area.

If you can't pay for school, you don't go. No one is going to just pop up and pay for your loans. Education in this country is a privilege, not a right. You didn't plan accordingly when pursuing other things.
First off you have no idea what kind of situation I've been through. I haven't been running through my student loans without thinking or planning. I planned my educational goals way before I entered college but life never goes the way you want it to. In not bitter about it but it is what it is. I'm not begging anyone for anything all I did was ask if anyone knows how to get extra money. If you couldn't answer the question you shouldn't have resoonded because you input was useless. Have a great day
Everybody has situations and hardships- sorry, but this is life. You need to pay down your current student loans- it's not a very wise, nor mature reason to rack up more debt when you have outstanding loans to pay on. This is what being an adult is, making wise decisions and choices- not making further poor decisions.

You will have to look into private loans then. This is why it is important to meet with your financial aid dept each semester you are in school. You need to plan accordingly.
I actually agree with direwolf. You need to go and work and save some money for the next few years. Then reapply.
Paying off student loans is easier said than done. Especially when it took me a year to find a job With a Bachelor's degree. Maturity has nothing to do with my situation. Sure I took out loans to pay for my education because I wanted to better myself. I got schlorships and grants but that wasn't enough so loans filled in the gap. I don't regret taking out student loans because I got a Bachelor's degree from a great University. In the end I will find a way to pay for Nursing school.
