Help paying for school

Published

I have been accepted into an ADN program. This is my second degree and have almost run out of loans. Does anyone know how I can get money for school? I don't qualify for grants. I llooked into nursing scholarships from surrounding hospitals in exchange for working with tr m after graduation but most of them don't offer it any more. Please help.

I am in the Jackson, Mississippi area

I am employed and they do offer tuition assistance but you have to already be working as a nurse for the company. I have been looking online for scholarships and I have found a lot.

Private loans? Of course, after you've exhausted all attempts at scholarships and working to pay as much as you can out of pocket.

I will be starting in January as well. I applied to my schools scholarships and won two that will cover next semester. It may be late for January but I would advise you to apply in Jan/Feb for your schools scholarships that will pay for your fall semester.

I usually paid out of pocket. I would check to see if your school has a tuition payment plan where they divide the payments by 4 or 5 where no interest is charged. Hopefully your CC is affordable and you can make a lump payment and do a tuition payment plan.

I sometimes pay on my credit card and make the payments over the semester. You can also try with your bank for a small private loan. Then you can work and save over the summer for fall.

Good luck.

Thank you so much. I believe that I will get some scholarships for the school but it's going to go towards my second semester. Which is ok because the tuition plus books is only $2600.

Hey dear. I'm sorry that you recieved such rude and useless comments from some posters. People get REALLY snarky when they have the anonymity of AllNurses on their side. I understand that you are in a tough situation, perhaps a delay of 1 semester would allow you the time you need to work extra hours and save up for school, one semester at a time. It takes money to make money, but nursing school is a great investment! I really hope everything works out for you.

People were rude and sparky? You must've seen something I didn't see. I am sorry you felt the suggestions provided were "useless."

Thank you for understanding my situation and being so nice about it. I plan on working while I'm in school to pay whatever is left after scholarships. I believe in my heart that everything is going to work out.

Thank you im really excited

As long as you put that positive energy out there, IT WILL COME BACK TO YOU! Attitude is everything! Everything is gonna work out just fine! Tune out the negativity and go handle your biz! You should be excited! I remember how excited I was when I got accepted into nursing school. I just graduated on the 12th and I can honestly say this was the best decision I ever made! If I had listened to the negative nannies and paid attention to those whose vibrational energy is low and cynical, I wouldn't be where I am today. Sometimes you have to encourage yourself hun! GOOD LUCK!

You are so right. Positvite thoughts alway yield positive outcomes. In order to get where I want to get I just have to ignore negative people and do what has to be done. I'm determined to accomplish my goals and become successful. Thank you again for your encouraging words.

Continue to search for scholarships. Many service organizations provide scholarships. Check with the nursing program too. There are scholarships with all types of criteria such as belonging to a certain religion/church etc. Many corporations also have scholarships. In your spare time, keep searching. I taught in a BSN program and served on scholarship committee. Many of the scholarships were small amounts ($250, $500 etc) and I actually had students tell me they "did not bother to apply for those" (only for the ones with $1,000 or more). Many times we had no one apply for some of the scholarships. There were various scholarships ( female, veteran, hispanic, first generation college student, member of LDS congregation, single mom etc etc). The financial aid office may have a list. Don't get discouraged.
