Help paying for school

Published

I have been accepted into an ADN program. This is my second degree and have almost run out of loans. Does anyone know how I can get money for school? I don't qualify for grants. I llooked into nursing scholarships from surrounding hospitals in exchange for working with tr m after graduation but most of them don't offer it any more. Please help.

I am in the Jackson, Mississippi area

My loans are currently being paid and I have never been in default with any of my loans so I think I have made pretty good decisions regarding my loans even when I was unemployed. I've never begged for anything or taken hand outs so like I said earlier I will find a way to pay for Nursing school.

It might take even longer than a year to find a job as an RN with an associate's degree..just a warning. What was your first degree?

Bachelor of science degree in history

Thank you I plan on working and saving for it

Bachelor of Science in History? Bachelor of Arts in History. Listen, I'm not trying to beat you up, but what did you really expect to do with that degree? Teaching is about it. Unless you go for your Masters or Doctorate in History, you won't get into a museum or anything which is about all you can do with that degree. This country needs some great high school history teachers. I'm a history buff myself and it makes me sad that current kids don't understand the history of this world and because of that we are destined to not learn from history, but repeat it. But there is not a whole lot else you can do with that degree. Why on earth would you major in that if you had no interest?

This is why I am saying it is important to meet with your financial and academic advisor each semester. To make sure you are on the right path. Look at the conundrum you are in now. You are trying to do what you want in life, but are basically handicapped by your past.

What's done is done. You can't change it. If you do not want to teach, you need to find something to do until you can save enough money for school. That is where you are at. If you really want this, work 2 jobs until you can save enough to reach your goal.

There is no such thing as a bachelor of science in history OP

Initally I wanted to teach then during my senior year I got a paid internship working with high school kids teaching them history. It was at that point that I realized I didn't want to teach. So then I looked into working at a museum but no one in my department told me that I would need a Masters or Doctorate to even get my foot in the door. I had to think of somethig to do with my life that interested me so I decided that I wanted to go into nursing. I already had all the prerequisites because of my minor. Right now I am working as a Claims Adjuster for a large insurance company. It pays well and I really love the job but I want more out of life so I decided now would be as good of time as any to apply for nursing school. I got accepted with no problem so now I'm just trying to save money.

Bachelor of Science

My major was History

I've done a lot of research and almost all of the hospitals around here hire students that have an ADN.

But do they hire new grads? Most current postings require 6months to 2 years paid nursing experience. Are there BSN programs in the area? That increases competition and reduces employment opportunities for new grad ASN nurses. Are you willing to relocate? When you graduate the market can change where they prefer to only hire new grad nurses with BSN.

The most direct method to seek scholarships is through your school financial aid and/or scholarship offices. Sometimes the alumni relations organization offers scholarships.

Thank you for responding. The postings don't specify if experience is required but I will definitely try and find that information out and yes I am willing to relocate. I have contacted the financial aid office at the school I'm just waiting on them to come back from the holiday break.

Are you currently employed? If so, does your employer offer tuition reimbursement benefits? Other than that, there are many nursing scholarships you can apply for. A simple google search for nursing scholarships returns many results.
