Hey guys, I am new to this site. I've been reading all sorts of things on here about NCLEX. I just took NCLEX on Friday July 2nd, and tried the PVT and it took me to the credit card page. I was so bummed I had 199 questions, which I think means I was borderline. I think my nerves got the best of me because I could not focus at all. I did the quickresults on Sunday and found out that I "failed". It's such a bummer because all of my friends around me are passing, and here I am being one of the first out of our 200+ graduating class not passing. I don't know how to study again! PLEASE HELP! I did over 5000+ questions, did Kaplan, Saunders and learningext.com. Any suggestions???
well the whole experience is awful...loud even with earplugs and headphones you can hear all your 6-7 neighbors squirming. You have a lot of pressure on the day...you cannot bring anything in except your drivers license/passport and perhaps they give you earplugs if the center allows it. you have to do a palm hand scan and finger prints...hand scan each time you leave and come back from bathroom. Which by the way detracts from your time. The questions I got came out of left field. Some were easier but, most were so much harder than kaplan, Davis's, HESI, ATI any I've done. It could have just been my luck though. I got lots of med q's I had heard of but, being newer meds I didn't know there side effects. They don't ask simple what does this med do type q's. Critical thinking has a lot to do with dissecting the question...if you read into it in the wrong direction you are in for trouble.
I just took the NCLEX for the second time today. and I did the Pearson Vue trick and it took me to the credit card place. SO I take that as I did not pass again. The computer shut off today at 75, but the last time it shut off at 247. Is there something I am doing wrong. I have done Kaplan, ATI, saunders questions and an additional Kaplan book. Is there anyone who can help me?

I took mine for the 3rd time on the 23rd of last month and passed with 75 questions. My scores were somewhat identical to yours. 265 on the first exam, and I got an 84 on 2nd.
On my first attempt, all I did was the Kaplan qbank questions. The next attempt, I figure if I knew much more of the content I would do a lot better. That didn't work out. I hopped from one topic to the other and there I just lost my train of thought. Also I didn't do that many questions compared to the first attempt. I probably did less than 800 questions.
Someone told me about Hurst Review. They taught me the core content and in addition they had a qbank that was pretty difficult.
For my previous attempt, I studied the Hurst Review book and did about 4000+ questions. Hurst, Kaplan qbanks, and NCLEX 4000http://www.exammaster2.com/wdsentry/utmbrn.htm
I read content for about 2-3 hours a day (from Hurst review work book). I also filled in some gaps that book didn't cover. I.e., certain cardiac or neuromuscular disorders (MS, Myasthenis Gravis, myocarditis etc etc). The only time I looked at the Kaplan book is when I was reviewing meds. Took an hour or so for lunch and then did about 150-200 questions. I tracked my scores including the 8 sections that are covered on the NCLEX. On days that I worked I did either 50 questions or I took a day off.
If there's a Hurst Review in you're area I would HIGHLY recommend it. Some people on this site think it's worthless but I felt it was worth the money and it paid off at the end. Barne's and Nobles and Borders has a Hurst book that teaches you testing strategies but it's different from the course book they give you in the live review.. So you might want to take a look at that before considering the course. To me Kaplan is good if you know the core content very well. I don't know much about the ATI and never did Saunders.
I never thought I was going to ever pass the NCLEX. After failing on my 2nd attempt I was frustrated, furious and somewhat depressed. But I never gave up.
You can do this and you will pass.
Congrats! I also passed on Oct 19th (2nd time)!!! This time I didn't use Kaplan (didn't work for me) and instead I used the books that people on this site recommended: LaCharity, Saunders, Mosby, Exam Cram, etc. It worked for me being able to use all the different sources. When I took it 2nd time, I took my sweet time and thought through each one. 75 questions took me about 2.5 hrs, and I took a break this time!
I want to encourage everyone who didn't pass their 1st time. Where there's a will, there's a way! Study hard, use those wonderful critical thinking skills, pray, take time for yourself and DO NOT give up!!! :-)

I am curious to hear your story...I know you must be heart broken but, you are not alone. You can pass this NCLEX and will don't give up! What have you tried and do you have trouble focusing? You may have some sort of learning disability. I only say this because I do...I have a very difficult time focusing on these types of questions. Dissecting them seems impossible when there are so many questions with, what seems to me like, so little time. I don't know your story but, perhaps you should seek accommodations...such as a private room or more time. I also hope you seek out study materials that best stimulate your learning style. Contact the State Board of Nursing. God Bless you
