I need guidance, I saw one of my classmates cheating on our mid-term pharm test. We self grade so she changed about 12 answers to get a passing grade. NOT only did I see her but in the hall after grading she told me she had to change them just to barely pass. I got an 83% and passing is 78% so sure I wanted a better grade to but would never have changed my answers.
Ethicly I think I know what to do, I just don't want to be a tattle tail and she knows I know so there is my catch 22 .
I guess what I'm asking is what would you do?

What are you talking about???? What anger? I didn't understand something you said and I asked for clarification so that I made sure I was reading it right, which you have yet to give. You know what, forget it, don't answer that, I am just gonna laugh and leave it at that. This is just bizarre. Best of luck to you.
We had an issue with cheating last year. This is what happened.
1. an instructor had to witness it for it to be official
2. There was a note attached to the cheaters' files.
3. One girl who told got threatened by a cheater with physical harm.
4. For some reason the police showed up (maybe because of the threat).
5. Our dean came into our classroom and let us all have it.
-She said that we all knew (not true)
-that it makes us all guilty (for not turning them in).
-she likened it to witnessing someone steal narcotics from a pt.
-most of the people that cheated failed the following semester.
-the girl who I heard did the threatening is still in the program.
The girl who cheated in our class=still in, out of 45 we have lost 11 people who failed by a fraction of a percent. The girl who cheated, made the deans list and still cheats. The ethics committee and the faculty have admitted to investigating her, but yet she still does it. It is frustrating but they keep saying, she will be weeded out... 2 semesters to go until graduation, shes still with us
oh I know this is an old thread but just wanted to say that I actually had this happen to me this last semester. I was actually the person that was being cheated off of. It was during a lab midterm and we have to walk around the room. anyways, this guy who towered over me was SO looking down onto my paper. I tried to hide it, but it was almost impossible to write my answers. I actually had a friend who noticed it and after class I was complaining about "feeling" like he was and she confirmed that he was...so what did I do? I marched straight down to the Head person in the biology dept and told her. I first told my professor and he actually made me feel small for telling. I actually didn't care if the guy knew or not. I just didn't study my a** off for him to cheat off of me. Totally lazy! but anyways..I didn't see him for the lab final..so well. i guess it was taken care of.
I know it is your gut instinct to turn in a cheater, but don't be a snitch. You don't want to be the victim of retaliation.
I think suggesting someone might want to consider retaliation is one thing but to tell them not to be a "snitch" isn't really OK. They are not the one who did something wrong.

I sat next to someone in an exam who had not cleared her desk entirely for the exam. It was at the back of the room. She had a summary review sheet out on her desk that had been homework a few weeks ago. When I left the exam I told the instructor. Nothing happened. Not a thing. She should have at least have been failed on that exam and she wasn't. Frigging ridiculous.
Self-grading? Uh, of course people without any integrity are going to take advantage of that. Maybe that's what the instructor wants.
Don't be a squealer, though. Cheaters always hang themselves once they get enough rope. If you say anything about it, say it directly to the person you saw cheating, and advise her to turn herself in. She'll think you're a meddling, but you'll be right.
