Does North GA have enough lab time?
Thanks! I didn't see this message. I should be studying right now for my ms final, but I am sooo burnt out! Lord! But I just got my fingerprints done and paid the $300 (I don't have) for the NCLEX today. I was excited and realized how nervous I am too. I have to pass. I just have to. I guess, I should really just be worried about the stupid MS final next Friday and passing it. I have to get a 69 in order to pass the class. i am sure I will but thats nerve Wracking too. Oh Lord! The joys of nursing school.. NOT! lol...

Anyone applying to NGCSU Fall 2012?
There are several students on my campus (LT) and gainesville that are "older" there are atleast 5 that are mid 40's, im 30 and 3 other students are mid 30's. So im not sure if they really do discriminate against age..but your GPA is crazily high and you really should have gotten in. I really will never understand how they choose. Maybe the other students had a higher teas score..but I do know that a few of my friends with like 3.7's (in their 20's) were waitlisted in 2010 also. So don't get discouraged..you very well might receive that thick envolope mid june. GL- and keep us posted. :) you will be very surprised by how many don't show up or don't do it after orientation..so even after school starts you may get the invite.

Littman stethoscope
Oh and I would get your name on yours...A lot of Dr.s like to walk away with them..but if your names on them it gives you more hope of it coming back to you. I personally really don't like loaning out my $200 stethoscope but sometimes in the moment of chaos you think of the patient more than the stethoscope..just my ..lol..

Littman stethoscope
Hey I got my stethoscope from medisave. I ended up getting the Cardiology II. Ridiculous..cause now its so heavy! I am going to be getting a Classic IISE soon..very soon. and they did the free engraving too. But I don't recommend getting it through the school. Last year they took forever for the students to get them! But I had mine fast cause I bought it online.

Anyone applying to NGCSU Fall 2012?
congrats to everyone who got/gets accepted!! You all are deserving and will get accepted somewhere if you didn't already! So DON"T GIVE UP!!! but I noticed there were alot of questions about the schedule for school. I am almost finished (graduate in May) so this year has been a little harder than last. First off, there are 2 clinical days (remember I am talking about second year) starting off immediately. So in August you will start clinical. You go to clinical Mon/Fri and class Weds...if you are in ob/peds you have class from 8-1 on weds..if you are in medsurg/psych you have class from 1-5 weds. on top of all that you have to do 14hrs of Service Learning..(total pain!!) and this happens both semesters of second year. First year you only have to do 8 hrs each semester which makes it more bearable. but there is just a ton more stuff to do second year. I am totally ready to graduate and am nervous about NCLEX. But again...if you get wait listed it isn't the end of the road. They most likely will pull you from the waitlist and contact you in June or July. There are I think 160 ppl total at the beginning. After first year there were 130 and now there are probably close to 100 that are going to graduate in May. (could be more..not sure) hope this helps.. ~Natalie.

Does North GA have enough lab time?
I think so..b/c if you need extra time you can just stay after class. Plus if you want even more time you can drive to Dahlonega and use as much time as you need. I was able to just stay after class and get all my practicing in. Plus I went home and ran through the different things a few times. Its funny, looking back I was so freaked out..and that was actually the easiest part of nursing school! lol..now Im worrying about NCLEX and just being done with everything. But congrats! and you will do great! :)

How to choose a med-surge speciality?
Medsurg ortho is also great experience. You not only get the medical patients like renal, diabetics, HF, etc..but you also get the surgical patients. Its totally different when they just come out of surgery. But hip fractures do sorta get old after a while. Medsurg tele does sound pretty good. Although almost every medsurg patient ive seen is on telemetry. So who knows..It may just depend where you are located. But I agree with the other post, if your into medsurg just get in somewhere! I know alot of ppl who are having a hard time as new grads to find a job. GL-

Nervous about Med-Surg
At our school we just finished up with peds/ob and next semester I go into Medsurg and psych. I was wondering if you have done peds yet. But supposedly peds was the harder subject in my program and I did better in it than I did in OB. I was shocked! But I just didn't enjoy OB at all. I think medsurg will be hard but doable and that you will learn a ton! Its good your nervous! I was too going into peds this semester and while a lot of my peers failed the course I almost made an A. I went in thinking "failure is NOT an option" so if you put your mind to it you'll be fine. But just make sure to keep up on the reading. I was looking at my book and started feeling overwhelmed but I am sure its got to be somewhat similar to pediatrics. Pretty much medsurg is geriatrics so that kinda helps me be able to anticipate what to expect. GL and let us know how ur doing when you get time. I haven't been on here in a while b/c all I did this semester was read...but don't stress..just do it!!! :)

Pre-eclamplsia: BP on left side?
Okay so I am reading my OB book b/c I have a test on Wednesday and I thought of this thread. The book says that you should measure the blood pressure in the same arm with the woman in the same position each time. If the woman is in the lateral position the lower arm should be positioned so the woman is not lying on the dependent arm. This more closely approximates the arterial pressure, whereas using the arm of the opposite side falsely reduces the measurement. Hope that helps...although I know this was a while ago. :)

Extremely STRESSED
You can get in with that GPA! I had a 3.2 when I got accepted. Apply to all of them. I am assuming Florida is as competitive as GA. If I can do it, seriously, anyone can. don't give up. Even if you get denial letters just keep plugging at it. I did, and I graduate in May. So its totally doable. GL... :)

first two days off orientation.... doubting my readiness
Where I work new grads have to have a preceptor for 90 days. Alot of people moan and groan about it but I am actually really glad. I don't want to feel totally lost. I started as a tech this last summer and I shadowed another tech for a month. I felt so lost but it finally kicked in. When they finally took away my security (the tech I was following around) I HAD to do it on my own, and if stuff didn't get done it was my butt they were going to chew out. So its good to follow someone. Write down things, ask questions, go over it..so what if they get annoyed. They will forget as soon as your on your own. You can do it, but I would be honest. GL...I will be in your shoes next summer. :)

Pre-eclamplsia: BP on left side?
I realized that I was wrong about the trendelumburg position! It would increase the pressure not lower the pressure!
