I need guidance, I saw one of my classmates cheating on our mid-term pharm test. We self grade so she changed about 12 answers to get a passing grade. NOT only did I see her but in the hall after grading she told me she had to change them just to barely pass. I got an 83% and passing is 78% so sure I wanted a better grade to but would never have changed my answers.

Ethicly I think I know what to do, I just don't want to be a tattle tail and she knows I know so there is my catch 22 .

I guess what I'm asking is what would you do?

If someone has to cheat to get through school, I doubt they will pass the NCLEX.

i would stay out of it... it will eventually catch up with her.

Maybe, but that isn't the real issue. Self grading in nursing school is ridiculous.

wow..you guys! seriously. Some of you sound nuts to me. Sorry, you can think of me as a "tattle tail" or a "snitch" but honestly I wasn't asking for anyones opinion or advice. I was just adding to this thread. I don't think I did a THING wrong! I did what I was supposed to do. I didn't appreciate this guy looking over my shoulder the ENTIRE exam. I was so distracted by him that I didn't feel like I did my best. So ofcourse I am going to tell. It happened to ME!! Not someone else! But actually the school I was going to was very happy that I let them know. I mean, don't we all sign the ethics and integrity sheet? I am wondering if some of you have cheated yourselves to be so defensive about me "tattling". Sorry if I am coming off as a B* but this just rubbed me the wrong way. besides this I am a pretty nice laid back person. But mess with my family or try to take advantage of me..then its no more nice girl!

The idea of "snitching" and "tattletale" is a grade school one that has no place in the real world. In the real world, it's expected for responsible adults to report cheating. There are even "whistle blower" laws to protect them.

As a professional, there's an expectation to report "cheating" which could be neglect of a patient or diversion of narcotics.

Most schools have an honor code which details out the student's responsibilities if they witness cheating. Every school I've been to stipulates that if a student witnesses cheating and doesn't report it, they are as guilty of academic dishonesty as the cheater is. My SON requires us to sign that policy each year.

Thank you Curiousme..just thank you. you said it all. lol..
