So I was late to apply to my Spring semester Microbiology, the last class I need before nursing school. The only teacher available was a notorious strict one, her rate my professor is full of students saying even if you do get the right answer, she will still find a way to take points off! And my neighbor made me scared about her too he said oh that lady? ya nobody ever gets an A in her class only a B or C! A lot of other reviews saying people who even got an A in all other science classes struggle to get a C in this one with this teacher! Keep in mind all other classes are already full from many colleges so I have no choice but to take her and *** up my GPA, or wait til another semester but that will waste 4 months you know? And will set me back many months in the nursing school applications window, but at the same time if I drop her class of get a bad grade that will be even worse... I don't know what to do!

mmm not sure how I will get a hold of him since everythings online now hut its worth a shot ?

Look up the Dean's name then look up the faculty phone number for the Dean and dial it. Leave a message to return the call. The Dean probably has transfered the phone line to their home or left the number to call or will return your call. OR email them, look up the email address online. How do you think the faculty are getting any work done without the use of phones or email? THINK!

Write professionally and also call. Be sure to explain you want to establish your section within a couple of days -- know when the class starts and when you have to pay tuition by so you don't get dropped for not paying..

It starts feb 16. Thanks

Just study. Micro isn't that difficult just memorization.

ya but my problem is, the many people who said that even if you get the answer RIGHT on the short answer portion of her tests, she still finds some thing to take points off! all her explanation as to why she does this is "I didn't expect you to write it that way". That is very dangerous, I don't mind a strict teacher, but a teacher who carelessly takes points off and doesn't give you the grade you deserve, thats what my main concern is

While ratemyprofessor has some value, I've generally found that many of the bad reviews come from lazy students. I've had teachers turn out to be great that had horrible reviews. Don't put too much weight on that. Talk to the teacher outside of class time, make the personal connection and express your intention to do well in the class, work hard and prepare yourself and there's no reason you can't get an A, no matter who the teacher is. Again, making the personal connection with the teacher is something I've found very valuable.

Don't push it back a semester. Micro is a class that you almost end up teaching yourself in your study time anyways. If you put the time in, you will be fine. Take ownership of the material and the knowledge in a way that doesn't depend on who the teacher is. It'll be good practice for later nursing classes.

Take the comments into consideration but at the end of the day you have to do what is right for you.

Is this school in San Bruno? If so, she's actually a fantastic professor.

Yuck. I'm sorry. If a professor is that bad, with my experience, I'd wait a semester. Nursing was my first love. After a video of a man shoving a huge needle into his body in a community college psychology class, I thought that I could not overcome my fear of needles and didn't pursue any further prenursing classes at 19 and turned towards computer science. I did nice with my first prereqs with CS. My networking professor my first year / first day at a university after CC smirked that  75% of the people in his class  wouldn't be passing it. I guess I was one of  the 75%. Wasted money and time. I should have withdrawn then. Honestly, I would have been  a miserable person to pursue the CC thing anyways. I like people too much. I guess he did me a favor unbeknownst. I'd say if she's this bad, it's worth it to sit a semester out. Is there another course in a nearby college that you could take and transfer? Just a thought?

Hey! So I'm not sure if this will work for you but I kind of worked my way around the same issue. I recently got my AS in a different subject and changed my mind about my educational path and decided to go into nursing. I noticed that I had all my prerequisites done besides a couple more science classes. Classes start next week so the classes I needed were all waitlisted. I worked around this by enrolling in a community college that is about an hour away from where I live and registering for the classes that I needed over there. I then called my college that I've been enrolled in to make sure that the classes I am taking at the other college are equivalent to what I need. She verified that they are equivalent and once I finish those classes I just need to send over my transcripts to apply for the nursing program. I hope this is helpful!

Edit: I noticed that in a comment you said you are from CA. Good news, I am too and it's actually illegal for colleges to not work together allow you to take courses at multiple colleges here in CA.
