So I was late to apply to my Spring semester Microbiology, the last class I need before nursing school. The only teacher available was a notorious strict one, her rate my professor is full of students saying even if you do get the right answer, she will still find a way to take points off! And my neighbor made me scared about her too he said oh that lady? ya nobody ever gets an A in her class only a B or C! A lot of other reviews saying people who even got an A in all other science classes struggle to get a C in this one with this teacher! Keep in mind all other classes are already full from many colleges so I have no choice but to take her and *** up my GPA, or wait til another semester but that will waste 4 months you know? And will set me back many months in the nursing school applications window, but at the same time if I drop her class of get a bad grade that will be even worse... I don't know what to do!

First question you should ask your self is are you OK with waiting another semester to take this class.

This past semester I had a professor who was not not great and his ratings on rate my professor was not great. but I had not choice but to take the class. I ended up watching Youtube videos of other professors to pass the class.

I would take her class and if you feel it's not right for you or your not going to get the grade you deserve then withdrawal from the class.

One time when I used Rate My Professor, I ignored all warnings about a Nutrition class professor (yes, Nutrition)and took her anyways.  I figured, how bad can a nutrition class be?   I should've followed exactly what others said:  Don't take her!  I'm not kidding, this professor was testing us on the exact nutrients in a green bean and in what percentages!  It was more like an Organic Chemistry class. I still ended up with an 88%, but had it been anybody else, it would've been an "A."  A waste of a class.  I ended up taking Nutrition somewhere else and it was nothing like how this other professor taught.  I got an "A."

I can't decide for you, but Rate My Professor has been pretty accurate for me when I looked at professors.

Well I heard people online say that they got an A in all of the sciences and are struggling to get a C in this one with this lady! Just look at some of these reviews oh my goodness...

she sucks I don't know who hired her I like totally dropped her class out of 50 something people only like 5 were left at the end of the semester cause she sucked so bad

(MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME) is the worst professor I ever had.She just reads from the slides and cant explain the material.Very hard to get an "A". don't take her, cuz you will regret it.we were almost 40 people in the class and alot of students dropped her.RUUUUN! Worst teacher ever

(MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME) is a horrible teacher and if you want to ruin your GPA,take her.Otherwise never take her class.

I feel you, same thing happened to me when I ignored psychology class bad ratings the teacher gave us 2 hour long tests, then I took it with someone else and got an easy A...I dunno if its worth wasting a semester but I already dropped anatomy cant afford to drop another science. ?

Can you approach another instructor and ask if you can be added to their class? Sometimes faculty will agree and add a students if they request it.

hmm everything is online now so I dunno how I would do that....plus I would have to surpass a long wait list of other people

Sorry, since you knew the name of one instructor I thought you could look up the other and send an email.  I didn't realize there was a waitlist already.

Here's another idea: wait on micro, take other courses you will need for BSN that don't have a time limit -- electives and such.

Can you contact the department head and ask to be placed in another class. The College I currently attend  states the class capacity is 30 put  in all my pre-reqs for nursing the classes always had and extra 2-4 students in the class.

If the professor is that bad I would drop the class because rate my professor has never steered me wrong.

My school is closed til Monday, I'll ask the nursing counselor this, also I'll ask her if I can take the class online with self pace websites like portrage learning etc, I strongly doubt they will take science classes from those places but I pray they do ?

I just need nutrition and nothing else, which I will take in 6 week class in January, so I literally just need Microbiology ?  gurl I wish LOL

Please be aware that most colleges want to do everything they can to help students be successful. If you do not want to take Microbiology from this professor, go to the dean and ask to be placed in another class. I know it says the other sections are all full, but the dean has the power to overload the class and it is done quite frequently. All you have to do is make an appointment with a Dean and just tell him that time will not work with your schedule and you really need to take Microbiology on a different day and tell the dean what section you would like to be in, also known as a CRN (course record number). The dean will overload a class to help a student, I always have to help!
