Help! Being stalked by a resident!!!

Published

So, I get out of work last night, and there's a text from a number I don't know. The person spelled my name wrong, which I find odd, but I brush it off..no biggie.

So today I'm in a room, and I get a call from my charge nurse. S, please come talk to me at the front desk as soon as you can. Apparently someone called and was like, "This is a resident. I need S's phone number." Luckily my charge nurse, said, "uhhh...there is no number." and hung up. Too weird and embarrassing.

Later, I'm getting some chapstick out of my locker, and there's a new text message from the unknown number. It is longer, etc, and then, has a name. Of course, this isn't the MD's given name, but nickname. So, I go to charge and explain who this might be.

I met this guy last week while he was rounding, and he was cute and friendly, but I got red flags right away. Every time he saw me, he would address me repeatedly by my first name. Like, S, how are you doing. Oh S, the pt in 28 requires 2 U PRBCs. S, Can you order them. It just struck me as odd..but I brushed him off as an eager resident trying to be friendly.

What concerns me now is, how did he get my cell phone number? Did he go in our private personnel/floor phone book and write it down? Creepy!

I'd speak to his attending ASAP!

ETA- It took me at least half way through the post to figure out you meant a MD resident, not a nursing home resident. LOL

If you have your number at work, as most units do, it would not be difficult for him to find it. PLEASE keep yourself safe. If you leave at night be sure to walk with someone to your car. If you have security in your institution I would talk with them also about your concerns. I don't want to add fear to your situation however it's best not to EVER underestimate ANYONE. It's important to trust your gut and it has already given you some information! Good luck to you.

Sounds like some guy with really terrible social skills to me. You should tell him to stop calling/txting you. What kind of stuff did the txt say? was it creepy or just "hey what's up" kind of stuff? Just wondering..

Calling you by your name and showing interest in you is now considered stalking?

If you're not into the dude, then tell him.

Why must every post like this on an.com always get replies that "he'z a murderer, obvs! CALL DA POLICE" and "OMG I'm sooooooooo sorry he liked you! That pig!"?

Thank God I'm married.

No the texts weren't especially creepy or anything...but why didn't he ID himself right away in the texts or by phone? He wouldn't give his name. Like, he could call and just say, Dr. T for Sonjailana RN...no one would question it!

No, but it is creepy that he got her phone number and not from her. If he's interested, get some balls and ask her.

So, having no balls (or being shy, or doing something different than you would) makes him a stalker...is that your position?

No, I have NO problem being asked out. It is just NOT cool to go into private work files and take phone numbers you want and then NOT identify yourself and leave messages..and then randomly call the front desk and ask for me but REFUSE to identify yourself. I mean, he might just be a dumba$$

but it's hard to tell.

Sonja, from an old woman, take this piece of advice: assume he's a dumbass. ;)

From an old guy (with three daughters), I say the same.

But set him straight directly and right away. As in, 'I do not want you to use my cell phone or to contact me socially.' If that solves it, great. If that doesn't, and ONLY if, then you have to consider that the guy could be a problem. But even problem dumbasses aren't necessarily axe murderers. (He's more likely to go for a scalpel, actually...:wink2:)

Yeah I'm not really worried..I just don't like that he had to get my number covertly..it's unlisted, and honestly pretty hard to get at my job.
