Yes, Steph. it's deja vu for me too, only now I'm at an all time high with my weight - 195 lbs and very very uncomfortable with my body. My downfall is junkfood period, as well as stress eating at work, and cutting out my workouts. I'll only do the SlimFast for four days to jump start things.......if today goes well.

lvn, good luck to you! There is no one size fits all. My main probleml with the low carb thing is that is makes me feel sluggish and I don't like eating meat, eggs or cheese that those diets require. There's only so much tofu one can eat. LOL

Funny - eating carbs (i.e. bread/pasta/potatoes, etc.) make ME feel sluggish. I don't eat more meat, etc., just don't eat anything 'white'. I do eat plenty of veggies, some beans, some fruit, etc. Shows how we are all made differently!

Me too. I rarely (when I'm eating my normal way) eat anything white. It's always whole grain stuff for me. However, I include a lot of grains - whole grain cereal or oatmeal (not instant) for breakfast, and grains at lunch and supper like brown rice, couscous or whole grain pastas (incidentally white pasta cooked al dente is not a high glycemic food), triscuits and hummous for a snack. Also I eat lots of fruit - for breakfast like a mango or papaya, an apple and orange for a snack, and berries at night. I eat a few bannanas a week because I want to potassium for the my blood pressure.

The above type of eating although very high in carbs is very energizing to me. Kind of makes you wonder why I eat junk food and get all bloated and sluggish and fat. Glutton for punishment.

I tried Atkins and lasted 13 days. Lost about 3 pounds.

But I agree that we are not all created equally. Some people thrive on low carb.

Welllllllll no sugar or white flour except for 1 cheat in the last couple months, lost 10 lb! YAYYY~ not exercising a ton - walking some - today I walked home from dropping my car off at the shop, that felt good. Clothes fitting a little better.

Thank you. The basics is that you get to eat 5 carb choices a day( each is aprox 15carb), you have a list of green light foods that you can eat all you want, and then you get 2-3 servings of dairy a day (even if they have carbs you don't count them in your 5 carb servings you use a dairy serving). I like it because I can eat what I want I just have to watch what it is, keeps me in check with portions. I'm planning on starting tomorrow.

p.s I got my book off ebay for less than $3 with shipping it was around $6.

Cool - let me know how it goes!

Heh, that would definitely surprise me :D.

hee hee! Well I hope that you are!

I agree - who eats instant oatmeal and WHY????

When I'm not doing the low carb - I love steel cut oats. Or just oats. Of course the bad thing is I grew up eating it with half and half, butter and sugar. . . . . :coollook:

Had my protein "women's" soy/whey shake (3 carbs). Ate some beef jerky while driving around seeing patients. Had a Mexican salad . . . lettuce, chicken, sour cream, guac . . .two big glasses of iced tea and one big glass of ice water. Snacked on pepitas and almonds.

Feeling bloated . . ...

Congrats Zoe . . :yeah:

I did pretty good today

breakfast yogurt with granola

lunch south beach blazing chicken pizza and green beans on the side

dinner chicken with veggies and a lil mashed potatoes

snacks watermelon, cherries, and sugar free ice pop.

so only ate actually 3 countable carb servings.

And for the most part I was satisfied. I'm fighting a chocolate craving right now though. But I am sure it will pass with time.

Good job everyone....Zoe w00t for the 10 lbs.

I did a good job sticking with my plan and went to the gym after work. I was very hungry in the late afternoon and by the time I came home was ravenous. Might have to add a late afternoon snack to tide me over.

A funny thing . .. .on the low carb diet if you crave something sweet you can use whipped cream as a snack . . . very low carb and just sweet enough to help. I use it in my coffee in the morning . .. . I have to admit it feels decadent to walk over here to the computer with a cup of coffee covered in whipped cream. :coollook:

mmmmmmm..............I may have to reconsider the low carb thing. Does Cool Whip cound as a diet food? I love that stuff.

1 carb per 2 Tablespoons. :D
