lvnandmom, those kinds of things are my downfall. Tempations are everywhere at work. But I find if I stay away from that first nibble I'm ok. If I have one, then I want another, and another........then something else and so it goes. I especially eat like that when I'm stressed, which is most days at work. LOL No self-restraint.

Yup. That was me yesterday. Did great the first 8 hours, resisted brownies and cookies, ate the snacks I brought and was doing fine. Then I got floated for my last 4 hours. All hell broke loose - 5 ICU admits within 2 hours, 2 other patients actively dieing, a Code in the cath lab stole one of our nurses for an hour.... adrenalin city. And those lovely, chocolate- chocolate chip cookies sat there screaming my name, promising to boost my adrenalin levels to new heights. I couldn't (and didn't) resist!

Oh well. Back in the saddle this morning. Off to ride the bike for a bit...

:p

arrgghhh . . :smackingf

Had dinner with my husband and in-laws two nights ago at a little Mexican restaurant where they have the best bean dip . . so I went off the low carb thing and had some with tortilla chips . . . . I get sooooo tempted by chips, salsa, homemade refried beans. I didn't eat very much but just enough to kick me off the "ketones in urine" stick . . . .

So, the next day started up again (I'm doing Atkins induction lvnandmom) and have been good. Peed on the stick this morning and the color changed a little bit so I'm back on the wagon (or in the saddle) again. :D

I don't have a problem with sweet stuff . . . just overeating good food and those pesky tortilla chips and salsa.

Did good staying on the diet. Had a slimfast for lunch by time the I went to the gym I was very hungry but did my work out through it. That's the end of my Slim Fast committment. So going to try some portion control and lack of junk food and see how it goes.

Blue, those kinds of shift drive me to the snacks in a heartbeat. Don't feel bad, sounds like you've earn it.

I buy sugar-free maple flavored instant oatmeal so I can have it at work for a mid-morning snack on the run.

What brand is that?

Yep the first nibble principle lol...

To put a spin on and old overeater's anonymous slogan: Nothing tastes as good as being thinner feels! (what they say is, "nothing tastes as good as being ABSTINENT - from compulsive overeating - feels...").

It's true that I feel better physically and emotionally, and not having sugar and flour in my system means the cravings are less... but the minute I have that first nibble ... you might as well write me a blank check because I'm gonna eat up all the stuff I have been saying no to for however long it's been!!! As much of it as I can get!! sigh...

Where is the "falling off the wagon" smilie?

Took my daughter out to dinner for her birthday - of course where did we choose to go? A fancy Italian restaurant. I thought I was being good - salmon and green beans and a salad. But then that naughty waiter brought us BREAD AND OLIVE OIL AND BALSAMIC VINEGAR DIPPING SAUCE. I only had a few bites but . . . then my daughter's fried ravioli came out . . .I had one bite of that.

Later at the mall I glanced at myself in the mirror and saw a pooching stomach . .. .sigh.

We saw "The Dark Knight" . .. ..very depressing.

So, where is the wine . . .?*wine

Steph I have to wonder if you (and I) are being realistic that we're going to have flat stomachs - hormonal changes and all that. LOL Mirrors are not our friends, especially after we eat.

Zoe, I'm glad you're feeling better. I like those sayings too. I'm feeling much better than I did a week ago when I was binging on pints of ice cream and I know I've lost a couple of pounds. Now to keep on keeping on...........

What brand is that?

WalMart has some no-name brand, Safeway has their name brand. WalMart also has a sugar free one with cranberries (Sturm's Village Farm brand). You have to watch the labels closely, the ones with sugar look very similar to the ones without.

Really, it's no wonder there are so many obese and diabetics in this country. There is so much sugar in EVERYTHING! Most of the products that are 'low carb' are really just the same as the regular stuff, but minus the sugar, and with a bit of fiber added in. Even when I'm not focusing on wt. management or low carb specific, I search out the 'low carb' versions of things just to ditch the sugar. Mission has some really nice, soft 'low carb' tortillas - some are whole wheat versions, some are 'white' and taste like regular ones - just better for you. I showed the package to the dietician at work once, and she lit up. "This is perfect for my hispanic diabetics!"

As for mushy oatmeal - yeah, I prefer it more 'chunky' myself, but figure mushy is better than cake/cookies/donuts.

Home on call today - am squeezing in a bike ride before things go crazy at work and I get called in!

Later!!:D

Of course we are being unrealistic. :D

My 7 year old patted my tummy the other day and said "Mommy, you need to lose this". Of course I had told the story about the little girl in the store who asked me if I was pregnant and he heard it. I told him "Honey, 4 kids grew in there and we had to cut mommy open to get you out so . . . I'm working on it." :D

I'm heading out to jog . . . . after I finish looking at allnurses and reading the newspaper and drinking my coffee with whipped cream. :jester:

Steph, don't feel bad. I had someone say "most people when they get divorced loose weight, but you've let yourself go". Ouch.

Blue, it is frustrating that sugar is in things like spaghetti sauce and ketchup, and then there's the "corn syrup" that they say is just as bad. It's frustrating.

Ouch is right . . .you can forgive kids but why do adults say things like that? I hate it when people say "wow, you look really tired!".

Thanks . ..

OHHH I feel your pain! The ravioli wouldn't have bothered me but the bread always does!!

Yeah that's the tricky part! My stepmom was saying she was jealous of me for doing so well. I told her, I ALWAYS do well at FIRST - but I always slip back! Be jealous of me in a YEAR if I can stick to this thing!

Thanks, dudette :)

Yeah I know - EVERYTHING - corn syrup, all those -ose foods (glucose sucrose etc), something - sodium dex - stuff .. I am supposed to watch sodium too so I am REALLY .. um, in a pickle. (OH RATS PICKLES HAVE SALT TOO!)

Did you tell your nice young man that that's not nice to say and if he pats some other woman's tummy and says that in the future he may get decked? LOL!~

had a little girl ask me not long ago when my baby was due, lol... did not react too much, she was just a child, but it did make me think ... sigh...
