Part IV
This is the thread where members come to share their journey to wellness and wholeness.
It's a holistic thread, talking about all apects of health, not just diet and exercise, but the mind and spirit as well. All posters are welcome (not just Premium Members) and encouraged on a periodic basis to share what you're doing, what you need to do and how you're going to do it, and what you know!
Hey guys I just passed my first kidney stone. Anybody have that lovely experience before?!
I don't know if that has to do with weight - diet would affect it I would think, ie calcium etc ... of course, we ain't susposed to give medical advice. I do know that I feel for ya, I hear that is SO PAINFUL!
I am SOOO leaving that alone, although I did scroll back to see what we're talking about...All I can say is... what... Better you than me? That's not quite right, but that'll have to do...!
Hugs!
ROFL Don!!!
Welcome, Jackson. No, I haven't had a kidney stone, but I've taken care of a lot of patients who have and they seem to walk the fine line between snowed by pain meds and hurting, hurting, hurting. No medical advice here, but it is summer, so just make sure you stay hydrated.
Y'all, I didn't realize how long it's been since I've posted. So sorry. I have been keeping up and I am very pleased with how you are all doing :).
Muffie--holy cow, girl. I am as green with jealousy as Blue is blue-haired. You rock! I'd be weighing myself every day, just for the fun of it :). But, I do think it a tad rude to send that excess weight my direction . . . .
DH and I went on a longish bike ride this morning. For the first time, I almost felt proficient, LOL. I started off clutching the handlebars about a mm away from the brakes, just in case, and pedalling a few times, then gliding a bit. But, by the time we stopped I was pedaling (I spelled it both ways, one is probably right) fast just for the fun of it and turning corners like a pro. Not quite ready to pop wheelies, but no longer afraid to move my numb hands and shift off of bony prominences--although I swear, I don't see how any bones could possibly be sticking out from my well-padded hiney.
Anyway, I had a blast. Although, I am tempted to make a t-shirt with "I'm new, please pass gently" on the back .
Tweety, I really don't think you stink :flowersfo Did I hurt your feelings bringing up that old post?
Strong Stuff
When you exercise, your smart body recognizes the extra strain and tries to make sure your bones are strong enough to endure it, so weight-bearing exercises are best for building bone. We're talking about things like walking, climbing stairs, and lifting weights, as well as balancing exercises. Make sure you're getting enough calcium and vitamin D, too. Bones need those nutrients to build new bone. Use this online tool to see how much of each you should be getting.

Woot!
Is that "Woot" or "toot"? Hi Tweety! :)
Hey guys I just passed my first kidney stone. Anybody have that lovely experience before? Just wanting some advice on how to avoid having this happen again. I still have to get the stone analyzed to see what it's made of. I'm fairly overweight and have currently been working at taking some of it off (6 # so far). I'm hoping that (and just eating healthier in general) will keep the kidney stones at bay!
Welcome Jackson!
Lotsa encouragement for weight loss to be found on this thread.
As for kidney stones - one nephrologist I used to know strongly discouraged the drinking of OJ, said it promoted more stones in those prone to them. Not sure if it is true or an old doc's equivalent of a wives tale. Remember what you paid for this advice.....
