Healthier Living Support Thread: PART TWO!

Published

Ok folks, time has come to Start anew.......over 1000 posts means LOTS of bandwidth use here at allnurses.com. So I have been asked to remedy the situation.....

Anyhow, I have enjoyed so much your sharing, help and support here on the Healthier Living Thread....let's keep it up!!!!!:)

QOD: What is your favorite "old" or "new" healthy food/recipe? Care to share?

I have "rediscovered" oatmeal. Yep old fashioned good ole Quaker Oats-----the slow cooked kind.....with raisins, a bit of cinnamon and some Splenda.....YUMMY. Eating this as my dh's cholesterol and lipid counts were very high---trying to clean up my own dietary practices to help him with his....anyhow.....

Anyone else? As you change/grow/develop new tastes, what are your "old" or "new" healthier-choice favorites??? Care to share????

Off to school I go. The nutrition exam went well (I think) will let you know what I got when I get the results.

Have a good day everyone!

Hi everyone! I have been hiding in a textbook as of late, but thought I would catch up on things. Hubby and I hit the gym this morning, 90 minutes of cardio and weight training. Have not been on the scale lately, but I notice a huge difference in the fit of my clothes again. Guess its time to go shopping. My nursing school uniform came in the mail this week, had to send it back, pants were huge on me and shirt was too. They made us order them back in August and I tried to explain that since I was a recent bariatic surg pt I could not even begin to guess what size I would need in March. They made me order one and try to guess at size and I was SO wrong. Thankfully there is enough time to get new ones sent to me, otherwise I am sure the residents at the nursing home would have had a good laugh over me in my clown clothes! :lol2:

Tweety, steak sounds good..I have not had any red meat in over 6 months! I admire you for going back to vegetarian! I am not sure I could since I have such demanding protien needs.

I am making turkey tenderloins for dinner tonight, baked with dijon mustard and coated in almond flour, will have something green with them, have not decided what though.

Jess, glad the nutririon test went okay, we are getting ready to start our nutrition section and it comes with a huge group project...UGH. Group Project are dirty words if you ask me!

Renee and Deb, how goes things with you? Hope everyone has a great weekend!! Will check back in tomorrow!

hi lori - good job on the weight loss! better to return that uniform because you are meeting your weightloss goals than to return it because you've gone the "opposite way" than you planned on going. :kiss

i eat very little red meat because when i do, it sits in my stomach like lead for way too long. i save the red meat for dinners out when i want a steak and potato, or bbq ribs to eat. i eat a lot of chicken, fish, turkey though. those are my favorites to eat, so it's easy for me to eat a lot of them. :)

i have my spurts of treadmill activity, and then i have days of wanting to throw the darn thing back into the garage because it keeps staring at me. :lol2:

congrats jess on passing your nutrition exam, too! :kiss

hi tweety - how was work today?

hello deb - what's new with you? did you get that book i suggested yet?

Hi guys!

Lori awesome about the weight loss. Your dinner sounds great. I'm going to portion control my steak and have it with a salad, cajun rice and beans (brown rice).

Hi healthier living buds. Things are going pretty well here. Did some cooking last night, made chili, cornbread, and chocolate chip cookies. Okay, so not the healthiest meal in the world, but I enjoy cooking and feel a lot better about eating something that I made with my own two hands than what I could get in the store or restaurant.

Been fairly good about the exercise thing. Got a couple workouts in this week and went for a walk w/ FH yesterday for about an hour. Funny, you'd think that walking wouldn't do much, but today I do feel some muscle soreness in my abs and obliques. They say that's one of the reasons walking is better than running: the abs do much more work during walking. Scale still ain't budging, though. :stone

Emotionally... have been in a bit of a funk lately. The stress of planning a wedding (which is really not up my alley, I make a terrible bride), work, commute, class, chores... just getting to be a bit much and it's been affecting certain aspects of my life. I was talking to FH about it and the poor guy wants so much to fix it. Didn't seem to believe that all I was really craving some unstructured at-home down time. But that seemed to do the trick, spent yesterday puttering around not worrying about where we needed to be and when. I'm feeling much better today.

Jess, we will miss you. I hope that everything is going okay for you and know that you'll be welcomed back if you ever choose to return. Best wishes.

Lori, congrats on the weight loss. You should be very proud of yourself.

Everyone else, hello and hope your healthy living pursuits are going well.

Jess, you will be terribly missed. You've been such a positive inspiration here. On this website you've always been kind and supportive, never giving in the negativity and flaming. Good luck to you in school.

arciedee, that kind of stress would put anyone in a funk. Hang in there.

I decided to go veggie today, even though I'm not finished with all the meat in the house. I felt it the thing to do. The Chinese food was good but very filling and I overate, which doesn't feel good at all anymore. I did my weekly weigh in and I lost .5 pounds, which probably isn't true, but at least I didn't gain.
