Greetings. Deb is going to put a sticky on this thread and eventually delete the other.
This is the thread where members come to share their journey to wellness and wholeness.
It's a holistic thread, talking about all apects of health, not just diet and exercise, but the mind and spirit as well. All posters are welcome (not just Premium Members) and encouraged on a periodic basis to share what you're doing, what you need to do and how you're going to do it, and what you know!
I did that Real Age test and it said my "real age" was 27, when I'm actually 26. Hmmm, not so great. I really need to start exercising, but I always say thatI need to find some kind of diet too. I did the whole Eating for Life last year and I actually didn't do too bad on it. I need to find some kind of diet though to get started on after Christmas. How do you guys stick with your diet while at work? Do you take your own lunch and pack a nice, healthy lunch? I'm just worried that if I find a good diet I'll end up blowing it on my work days.
Also, any tips on how to get more vegetables in my diet? I know I know I need to eat my veggies, but I am so picky about them .... I don't like a lot of the typical vegetables.
The Real Age thing said I need to start taking a daily vitamin too. Any tips on that? Do I just need a daily multivitamin? Or do I need to be taking a bunch of different things? So confusing.
All of this is so frustrating .....
The realage thing is specific about what amount of each vitamin you need in a daily vitamin, check out the "RealAge plan" or whatever they call it. As to veggies, I'm with you sister... I make salads in a big bowl that will last 2-3 days rather than making a salad for each meal. Other than that, I have a rice steamer which has a veggie steamer where you can put a serving or two's worth of whatever fresh veggie you like, tastes better too.
Hi Arciedee - long time no see! :) Good point about the multi-vitamin for your gender. I do take a women's multi-vitamin and I can tell if I forget to take them for a few days - I feel like a slug!
I'm taking the one for "dieters" - I forget what it's called - has that "EGCG" and I don't know what else, too tired!
Thanks for the welcome and congrats, everyone! I'm so excited about going back to school. I ordered my uniforms on Tuesday and couldn't believe how "nursey" I looked when I saw myself in the mirror. Wow.
One thing I would like to do before going back to school is to get in better shape. While I wouldn't mind shedding a few pounds (only five or so), my bigger goal is to build up some strength and stamina. The past six years I've worked at an extremely sedentary desk job, my only exercise during the day being my walks to and from the bus station or if I go outside for lunch (which I've gotten much worse about since they opened the cafeteria in our building). I want to be ready to be on my feet all day and handling patients. Unfortunately I think most of my working out will wait until after the Christmas holiday, though we are supposed to go skiing next week!

Hi Arciedee
Boy are you gonna be sore after skiing!! lol
Good idea to get "buff" before you start nursing, especially if you are on the floor right away! Good luck!
Well I just had to share a little vic'try before I go to work. I started out at 166 lb in November sometime (not sure when) - at 4'11 not too healthy!! On Dec. 1st I was 163 - today AFTER breakfast I was 159!! Thank you God :) This just from cutting sugar and flour from my diet (and fast food, and fried food... ) and eating like 3 TIMES the fruit and veg I used to eat!
wheeee!

It's one thing that I remember from my nutrition class (not sure what else I remember
).
Healthy living is going okay. We've been eating out a LOT lately. The BF doesn't see a problem with that, but I really don't like it. Bad for the wallet AND the waistline. So I'm trying to be better about the homecooked food. I've brought my lunch twice this week and I know I'm getting a much healthier and balanced meal that way than wandering around the cafeteria at work. I will, however, make exceptions for mac 'n' cheese day. That day I buy lunch because it's sooo good. Luckily they only have that once or twice a month.
I haven't been working out much at all lately, though my workplace has been sponsoring a weekly yoga class on Monday afternoons that I've been attending. I really enjoy being able to learn in a class environment instead of by DVD, though it's nice to have a good collection of DVDs at home.
Hopefully when I start school in January I can take advantage of their facilities. I know they have yoga and pilates and aerobics classes that should be free if I can fit them into my schedule. Oh yeah, I GOT ACCEPTED TO NURSING SCHOOL! I'll be quitting my job in less than a month and going back full time (direct-entry masters). Eep! Scary and exciting all in one
