Greetings. Deb is going to put a sticky on this thread and eventually delete the other.
This is the thread where members come to share their journey to wellness and wholeness.
It's a holistic thread, talking about all apects of health, not just diet and exercise, but the mind and spirit as well. All posters are welcome (not just Premium Members) and encouraged on a periodic basis to share what you're doing, what you need to do and how you're going to do it, and what you know!
I think anything to get you through the holidays is a good thing, this is a hard time of year for dieting.Have a great weekend y'all - I am taking tomorrow off to take my little boy (age 4) to see a movie. He has been super good at pre-school for 3 weeks and I promised him something special, so that's our plan. Talk to y'all Monday!
I would like to start "cutting carbs" soon. I am just too darn lazy right now to do it.
Ahhh, have fun at the movies .
Thanks everyone for the get well wishes :)I'm feeling a bit better, but didn't sleep well today because I still had a fever off and on. So I called off for work tonight. I hate doing that but I'm sort of a baby when it comes to working while sick .... I know a lot of people do, but I just can't.
Gentle - Nice to meet you too. Thanks for the turkey recommendation ..... I'll have to check that out. Is that healthier than regular processed turkey?
Hi RainDreamer,
I'm sorry you still don't feel good. I think you made a wise decision to stay at home rather than go to work sick. I wish more people would do that rather than spreading their viruses to our already sick patients. but alas, that is another topic.
anyhow, lets see, hmm, healthier than regular processed turkey. well, i think so, because the ingredient listing is alot lower than oscar mayer bologna. Please keep in mind that this information is coming from someone who used to read ingredients lists for every food that came into her home, but now is just trying to survive the day calmly with her children and husband. I really have let alot of that part of my memory go.
please, feel free to double check anything i say . . . err . . . write.
hope you feel better soon.
Rain, don't work while sick. Don't you work with babies? I never work when I'm under the weather. 12 hours is just too long.
So today I'm going to the gym. Right now the diet is sporadic due to the holiday goodies and lack of willpower, but I am throwing lots of fruits and veggies and good things, so maybe 50% bad and 50% good. I'll work on that. Dec. 26th is diet day! :)
I would like to start "cutting carbs" soon. I am just too darn lazy right now to do it. .
We'll let each other get away with these kind of excuses until 26th. Then we start kicking butt! LOL
I did go to the gym yesterday and work out with weights and 40 minutes of aerobics on two machines. Felt good.I haven't been to yoga class lately and I think I have a few classes left on my pass. I miss it and am getting stiff. It's something you need to keep doing or you loose it.
Do you do ti chi? (sp)
Augigi, you're brave to drink with co-workers.
You bet your bippy! ha ha!
Zoe, I have a tai chi DVD. I might want to dust off......I'm not sure about the ying and yang and energy aspects of it, but it's supposed to have some benefits.
I did a tiny bit of it when I was in the hospital, and it felt very good. I do need a lot of stretching especially in my neck. I have a familial tremor especially in neck and hands, which gets worse when I am stressed, or if my blood sugar is fluctuating too much! The relaxation AND the stretching help a lot! It really doesn't matter tho whether it is Yoga or Tai Chi or just stretching/weight training/etc. I am not into the ying/yang stuff either ...
I'm still a bit unhealthy with the eating, but doing well.
Yah, well I am trying to do the "one day at a time" thang (when I remember!) And today so far I ate a good breakfast and lunch, and a medium half decaf/half regular coffee. And church. And a good walk! (it's around 46* this afternoon! Bery unusual for this time of year in Maine!)

* Just For Today
Just for today I will try to live through this day only, and not tackle all my problems at once. I can do something for twelve hours that would appall me if I felt that I had to keep it up for a lifetime.
Just for today I will be happy. This assumes to be true what Abraham Lincoln said, that "Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be."
Just for today I will adjust myself to what is, and not try to adjust everything to my own desires. I will take my "luck" as it comes, and fit myself to it.
Just for today I will try to strengthen my mind. I will study. I will lean something useful. I will not be a mental loafer. I will read something that requires effort, thought and concentration.
Just for today I will exercise my soul in three ways: I will do somebody a good turn, and not get found out; if anybody knows of it, it will not count. I will do at least two things I don't want to do - just for exercise. I will not show anyone that my feelings are hurt; they may be hurt, but today I will not show it.
Just for today I will be agreeable. I will look as well as I can, dress becomingly, keep my voice low, be courteous, criticize not one bit. I won't find fault with anything, nor try to improve or regulate anybody but myself.
Just for today I will have a program. I may not follow it exactly but I will have it. I will save myself from two pests: hurry and indecision.
Just for today I will have a quiet half hour all by myself and relax. During this half hour, sometime, I will try to get a better perspective on my life.
Just for today I will be unafraid. Especially I will not be afraid to enjoy what is beautiful, and to believe that as I give to the world, so the world will give to me.

Zoe,
You aren't alone, zoe. Before children, i was great about diet and exercise. after children, everything got really complicated really fast.
Now that the kids are older and i have grown, I find it more relaxing to hang out with people who want to take the "baby step approach" to healthy living. Don't get me wrong, i LOVE to see the beautifully physically fit people on the internet who have lost the weight and have stamina to chase their children. That is my GOAL!!!!! I need that goal. I want the strength to do different and new fun things; however, i don't need the bitterness and frustration of DRAGGING my family with me
. Been there done that.
Soooo, if you are willing to join me, how about just two days of exercising a week to start?
About your concerns regarding pilates, there is an excellent video out that goes through all the basic, intermediate, and advanced levels. I can only do 10minutes of the beginner basic, but guess what? That is the length of that section !!! I was sooo happy. And I found that it helped me feel good too. The simple stretches helped me relax and that was it. It is called Pilates Complete for weightloss. The instructor is Karen Garcia.
I noticed you're not too crazy about richard simmons, but, i love him. he is a baby-steps kinda guy. i never felt that i wasn't good enough, when i watched him on tv. i started out with him, when i was fifteen.
