Greetings. Deb is going to put a sticky on this thread and eventually delete the other.

This is the thread where members come to share their journey to wellness and wholeness.

It's a holistic thread, talking about all apects of health, not just diet and exercise, but the mind and spirit as well. All posters are welcome (not just Premium Members) and encouraged on a periodic basis to share what you're doing, what you need to do and how you're going to do it, and what you know!

I have the opposite problem - I can be totally good on the food (like now, filled the house up with healthy food so I have no choice!), but I am terrible at getting exercise done. I go to bed with great intentions and set the alarm, but the snooze button is so much more appealing than my shoes in the mornings...

Okay Zoe,

Now that is hilarious. My friend had a dog that they called Dumb Dumb. And yes that dog was dumb. They love Dumb-Dumb. Though not to smart, that is the most loving "piece of fur."

My girlfriend decided she is going to make slippers out of her cat when he dies. He is nice and furry. :lol2:

Hey, it could happen, there are those who brush their cats/dogs and make sweaters out of the fur ...

There are some who make money making them for others!

Gee Zoe,

I forgot you are in Maine. Hmmm, I don't know about the gazelle. Is there a health club that you can join--for a limited amount of time--to try out different pieces of equipment? This way you wouldn't have to worry about purchasing something and then not enjoying it. Not to mention trying to ship it back.

Hey, maybe one of your friends at work has one that you could try for a month or two. Heck pay them a couple of bucks for the use of their equipment or barter with them.

Let us know how that turns out.

My dad has just about a complete gym at his home but he's 45 min away and ... I'm not too keen on spending THAT much time with him! (no offense, Dad!)

I HAVE joined gyms and I enjoy them - but I only last about a couple months and then fall off. Distance is usually the problem, can't seem to find one close by that I can afford.

I don't mind the treadmill. The stair climbers KILL. The elliptical is made for big people (I'm 4'11"). So, I dunno. Richard Simmons irritates me. Pilates is not as easy as it looks. Waah waah waah.

Well, I'm so lazy I don't like to chew FOOD.

Wow, this has turned into a busy place - how awesome!!!

Gentle, I think you are right, probably worrying less about the food and more about the exercise would help immensely. I'm nutty I think because I really enjoy exercising, it's just the getting started part that gets to me. I need to quit dinking around and just do it. I do really good for about a week and then I fizzle, so if I quit fizzeling, I would feel so much better. Hmm - this is giving me motivation - think I will go for a walk on my lunch break. :)

Augigi, I know just what you mean about that snooze button . . . it is my best friend. :imbar:

Tweety - glad you're walking the critters - dogs are so good for that. Yours are italian greyhounds, right? They are so full of energy, I used to have one, a girl, she was a blast! :D

Zoe, I have never tried the gazelle, but they have always interested me. I agree, if you can find a spot to give one a try, go for it. Otherwise maybe you can find a place that allows you a 30 day home trial or something when you purchase it, at least that way if you hate it you can return it.

Everyone, have a great day!

"There is a form of laughter that springs from the heart, heard every day in the merry voice of childhood, the expression of a laughter -- loving spirit that defies analysis by the philosopher, which has nothing rigid or mechanical in it, and totally without social significance. I LOVE those quotes on laughter ..... what a refreshing read, thank you!! :)

Ok so I was all psyched up to start eating healthier and exercising. But then I've been sick the last couple of days. I ate a turkey sandwich at work for lunch on Monday night and I felt so bad afterwards. I threw up so much at work ..... not fun! And after that I've just been feeling blah. I think it was some bad turkey. Which maybe is just a reminder to me that I shouldn't be eating processed meats. You know when you get sick on something you ate, you never want to eat that again? Well maybe that'll work for me and I'll never want to eat processed meats again! Hopefully.

Feeling a bit better, but not totally 100%. I'm excited to start on this healthy living thing .......

Hi

I am new to this thread but have found that listening to relaxation music when I am getting stressed out and the first thing I want to do is eat has helped me. I have a major depressive order and get anxious very easily. Unfortunately if I could only stop smoking. I stopped for three years and then my Mother died and a cigarette was the first thing I reached for.

{{{{{{Conehead}}}} Sorry about your mom! I know about quitting for a long time and re-starting, man was I disgusted with myself. But I'm almost a year quit this time and it was tough but worth it.

I'm glad you brought up the relaxation, that is something that is VERY hard for me to do!
