I haven't peeked in here in forever, it's high time I get my butt in gear though!

I bought that SuperFoods RX book a while back that someone here told me about. I read through that some this week and then went to the grocery store yesterday. I bought a ton of veggies/fruit, healthy snacks, etc. I bought some soy milk (since soy is one of the super foods) ..... I bought some plain and chocolate. I tried the chocolate and it actually wasn't bad at all, tastes just like chocolate milk. Then I tried the plain and I almost threw up. YUCKO! Hopefully I'll be able to eat it in my cereal though without gagging too much.

Gonna start yoga back up and some jogging too. I just HAVE to get the motivation to get going!

I hope you're all doing well!! :)

Hi Rain!!! Get that butt in gear!! Woot! I am the one who recommended that book. He's updated it, but it's not really worth getting. He did had pomegranite, kiwi, and dark chocolate to the superfoods list. As well as some spices like ginger, garlic, and cinnamin. I can only tolerate soy milk on my cereal. Careful of the sugar content. I buy "unsweetened" and got used it on cereal but wouldn't dream of drinking it plain. Do you ever cook tofu? That's a good way to get some soy too and I love it.

I'm doing o.k. I'm going to pass on the exercise today.

I've lost 2 lbs since I started working out and I've managed to keep it off...

... despite skipping two days and plurging at Hardees for a thickburger day-before-yesterday.

This is encouraging news :)

4 weeks ago, I'd be huffing and puffing if I ran for 4 minutes at a stretch.

Now? Not only do I run a mile at a time (three times as much), but by the time I've finished the running part of my workout - I've run 3 miles and walked a mile more.

Pretty soon, I hope to be able to run an entire stretch of 5 miles.

And it that ain't good 'nuff - I've maxed out the dumbell kit! :w00t:

I'd bought myself a 40 lbs kit a year and half ago - telling myself that it was time to get in shape. Yesterday, I finally hefted ALL of it! 20 lbs on each arm!

20lbs don't sound like much - but barely 4 weeks ago, I was struggling to lift 5lbs on each arm! :) Sure, with the 20, I can't do much (3 sets of 8 reps each).... but it's a start! In two weeks I plan to be able to do atleast 3 sets of 12 each!

Yep. Much to feel happy about.

Make it into a habit and pretty soon you won't need much motivation ;)

Up and at 'em! :D

Tweety: My gandpa is over visiting and he's astonished by the fact that I'm not eating candy, ice cream or cake. He insists that my "dieting" at "this young age" is ridiculous.

I tried pointing out that my being 20 lbs overweight and having marginally high BP at MY age was what is "ridiculous"

Good job on the resistance!

Roy...this may seem silly but were your shoes tied too tight? Personally, I like my shoes tight when I run but there is a fine line between tight and so tight my foot feels numb or asleep.
I try running barefoot and it still happened.

Hasn't happened the last three days though - maybe it's getting better?

Good job Roy. Prevention is the key. You can avoid a lot of chronic problems that Americans have (not necessarily seen in your relatives) by starting good habits now.

Come to think of it, I've been running and working out for about 20 years now. I'm relatively trim and only this past year did I ever need to diet. My cholestorol is 150s (when I was eating meat a couple of years ago, probably lower now). And I take no medication for diabeties, heart trouble, no medications whatsoever, but for some prn antacids for gerd and motrin for headaches.

Pat myself on the back. :)

So today, I'm eating pizza. But it's 100% whole wheat crust, all veggies, with organic cheese. So it's not totally junky.

I'm going to walk the dog.

I'm hopefully going to restart my meditation practice tomorrow.

Mmmm - your pizza sounds good tweety.

I am having a hard time incorporating eating anything at all, let alone anything healthy, into my clinical days. It is really hard for me to eat at work. They give us a break, but I just don't feel like eating then. Hmm. I need to figure something else out there.

Clinicals this weekend were awesome! We did our first clinical for gerontology (sp?) and I loved it! I have my final for Nursing Concepts & Skills I tomorrow, so I am freaking out about that, but other than that, life is good! I did about 80 million vitals, blood glucose tests, and several baths. I soooooo love the patients, they are wonderful and luckily the staff at the nursing home was awesome, so it was a great experience! The patient I was assigned to was a new-admit, so it was great because I got to see a lot of it all from scratch with her. She was a blast - very sweet. I sooooooooooooooooooooo love what I am doing and I am glad I finally quit procrastinating and decided to go for it!!! :)

Way to go Sarah. If you don't take care of yourself, trust me your body will let you know. I love the positivity in your post. Awesome!

I'm eating well today and despite a headache that I wanted to sideline me from the gym, I still went to the gym. I'm still congested from the cold I had a week ago. I'm tired of that.

I forgot I committed to meditate, but took a 3-hour nap today. LOL

So I went to yoga last night, and I guess the inversions helped with my congestion, although I'm sure my fellow yogi didn't appreciate me blowing my nose throughout class. I did have the courtesy to leave a couple of times when it needed to be loud. LOL

I think I'm finally on the other side of feeling bad after about 10 days. John's cold lasted about that long too. Sheesh.

Today it's going to be a little gym work with 40 minutes of aerobics. Monday I only made it to 30 minutes and I hope to pump it up today.

hi all .:)

just returned from vacation so now getting back into the swing of things. i ran today and ate pretty well, so i'm happy. i also ran while on vacation on the day that i had no physical activity so i was proud of myself for doing that!

that pizza does sound good, tweety. i had a piece of whole grain pizza for dinner but it had pepperoni on it...that's the compromise my bf and i make since he's not as into the health food thing as i am (we had a salad on the side at least).

roy, i'm glad your foot/feet are feeling better. take care all.

cheers!

Welcome back RN.

I had a very good light day of eating healthy food at work and I'm pleased. We had cake, but I didn't eat it, which is a milestone. Work can really be my downfall due to stress eating, etc.
