Published

Greetings. Deb is going to put a sticky on this thread and eventually delete the other.

This is the thread where members come to share their journey to wellness and wholeness.

It's a holistic thread, talking about all apects of health, not just diet and exercise, but the mind and spirit as well. All posters are welcome (not just Premium Members) and encouraged on a periodic basis to share what you're doing, what you need to do and how you're going to do it, and what you know!

I am quite excited to be getting myself on the healthy living track. I've started a "diet" (or lifestyle change, to be more accurate) of eating 1550 calories a day, keeping track of all food i eat, and exercising like a mad woman. I go to the YMCA 6 times a week for at least 30 minutes a time. Lost 5 pounds this week!

I've found a great online website for healthy living/diet tracking, nutrient tracking, weight loss, etc. if interested PM me.

Hi Happy Nurse. Kudos on the lifestyle change. I hope you continue to post to this thread.

I blew the diet today, but it was a conscious decision. I had donuts and pizza at work. No regrets as I've been reasonably well this week, but I can't whine about not loosing any weight either. :)

I can't believe how much better I feel after a couple of weeks of feeding myself properly. I'm not into the uber-healthy stuff like Tweety, but I have consumed lots more veggies and fruit, less red meat, and very little starch/sugar, and already I have less arthritis pain and more energy. I've lost 12 pounds (on me, that's like a $50 discount off a Rolls-Royce;) ), but I haven't starved myself, and there's no denying the improvement in my mood........weird, how changing just a few things makes such a world of difference!

Everybody keep up the good work!!

Way to go Marla!!!! Did you see the posts above out Sarah and I trying getting rid of our "self-sabbatoge" button. Funny how when we feel good, we tend to sabbatoge. Care to join is in a "destroy the button" party!

Oh, boy, do I ever know what you mean about self-sabotage.......I've been doing it for the better part of 50 years!! It's like I just can't allow myself to have it TOO good---a happy life, a solid marriage, great kids, a dream job, AND good health---gotta have something that doesn't work, or I just won't know what to do with myself.:uhoh3:

Of course, this "stinkin' thinkin'" all comes from my bringing-up (I am the 'difficult' child, therefore I am undeserving, hence I must suffer), and I'm finally realizing I need to get past that. The weight is the last obstacle in my way of having the kind of life I want......it's time to liberate myself!!!!!

Yes, Marla, it's definately time. Myself included.

That said, I'm going on vacation tomorrow and am not sure how "healthy" it will be. But hopefully I won't be turning on the self-sabbatoge button either.

Hi Marla - yes, join us in purging ourselves of our unhealthy ways . . . er . . . at least fighting it united!!!

Hi Happy Nurse!

Hey Tweety, I don't blame you for the donuts & pizza, hard to resist, but at least you balanced it throughout the rest of the week.

Ok, I'm not sure if I can list this as good or bad - hehe. Yesterday my friend that I went to visit after clinicals (she happens to live in the town my clinicals are in right now - yeay!) had baked a zuchinni cake, so I had a piece of that. Today at work another friend brought in banana bread, so I had a piece of that. Now hmm, I suppose that's probably not the best thing in the world for me, but at least it is not devil's food cake . . . right? Gosh I hope so!

Anyway, the walking is making me feel much better! :) I did not get fatigued at clinicals, so I was happy with that. I had an awesome patient - she is a retired nurse (I seem to be getting those - I am counting my blessings, they are teaching me a lot!) and she had a pacemaker. She was teaching me all sorts of things - 98 years old and sharp as a tack! She was telling me about the different meds she was on, how they worked in her body, and doing things like . . . listen to my heart here, listen to my lung here and teaching me about what I was hearing. I just loved her! Now I have to go study like mad for a test tomorrow. :)

Have a healthy day y'all!

Sarah, you're doing great.

Your nurse/patient sounds wonderful. I can only imagine what kind of patient I'll be, but I'd be honored to have a student take care of me, now that you mention it. :)

I agree Tweety - I think that I'll love being able to help out a new student if ever given that opportunity when I am in a Nursing Home. I have decided I'm going to be one of those residents who spends my days talking with all the other residents and listening to them, that is just my personality. Hopefully I can remember that in 50 or 60 years. :) When I had my second child, nursing students came on duty right after my daughter was born and they asked if I wouldn't mind letting one care for me - I said that was fine and the girl assigned to me was wonderful, I actually really enjoyed it and she got an opportunity to learn a bunch of L&D stuff, she also got to come with me to surgery (had a tubal), so that was a great experience for her! I just love it! :)

Hello from Asheville. What a great place for healthful living and eating. So many health food stores, vegetarian restaurants, alternative medicine practioners. I love it! I could stay healthy here............if I wanted to.

LOL! I know that feeling! Ok - I have decided something . . . we have a birthday party coming up on Tuesday, so I am going to be moderately decent (but far from perfect) until then. Then I will splurge on the party day and after that I am going all-out on the diet! I'm going to stock up on salad stuff this weekend and have nothing else in the office, then I can eat protein in the evening and should be pretty balanced. At least . . . that is the plan anyway.

Aaaargh - I am so frustrated! Someone keyed my car on campus last night. What is up with that? You would think college students would have gone past this stage by now. I hate it! My poor little car is only 3 months old (I got it for the awesome gas mileage) and now it is keyed on both passenger doors. Does this happen to a lot of people on campus? This bites! :(

Hello everyone.

Sounds like everyone is doing well around here.

I've had an "off" week due to allergies. I went for a run yesterday and hopefully will bike today, if not, then a run for sure this evening. I do feel 110xs better when I'm exercising and eating right.

I am feeling a little overwhelmed with the prospect of starting school and continuing to work full-time. I think it's throwing me off in other areas, too...I just don't totally feel like myself. I think anticipation is the worst thing...I'm sure once I start next week I'll figure out a plan and all will be well (albeit, busy).

Tweety, I hope you continue to have a wonderful vacation.

Take care all.

cheers!
