Greetings. Deb is going to put a sticky on this thread and eventually delete the other.
This is the thread where members come to share their journey to wellness and wholeness.
It's a holistic thread, talking about all apects of health, not just diet and exercise, but the mind and spirit as well. All posters are welcome (not just Premium Members) and encouraged on a periodic basis to share what you're doing, what you need to do and how you're going to do it, and what you know!
Zoe: I'm concerned because I'm a young twerp all of 22 years of age. I sholdn't be having high BP
Sarah: I can't seem to get my head wrapped around a food journal. I think I need to go check out that website someone posted a while ago.
Hmm, today was nice. Did lots of running and wore my shoulders out with the dumbells again. Pain sure feels good
For all y'all who're wondering what kind of running/fitness regimen you want to start out - I started THIS today. Check out their complete website here.
It's the lake run club's program - designed to get you ready to run an almost 5 mile course. It's about 8-10 weeks of preparation and I'm all for implementing it. Today was a 20 minute walk followed by a 5 minute run followed by a 5 minute walk.
Tomorrow is a 6 minute run followed by a 6 minute walk. Repeat twice more for a total of three times.
Roy, that is "pre-hypertenions" and should simply be monitored. I'm sure lack of sleep/stress over NCLEX, etc. etc. might have something to with it. Just keep a check on it every now and then. I'm at that stage as well (of course I'm more than 20 years older than you and I'm allowed.), my last BP was 132/70.
Way to go Sarah!
I did the run/walk type of training when I was training for the marathon and it worked well for me.
I was good today. I went to the gym, worked with weights and 40 minutes of aerobics. I went bowling for fun!

The lake run sounds GREAT! Almost doable LOL!
God bless you!
Good run yesterday - I surprised myself. I didn't know I had the endurance to do a 6 mph run for 6 minutes!
Worked my biceps off yesterday - figured out a way to convert my two dumbells into a single bar. That means I can do more 'concentration' exercises
I think I did a good job, because they still feel sore this morning :chuckle
Today it's the shoulders turn. I only wish there were a way I can work on my chest (bench press and flys) at the same time. Unfortunately, no suitable bench (or even a plank of wood to be laid over two chairs) is to be had around the house.
While I haven't implemented any serious "diet control", I have noticed that by and large, my 'portion' sizes have come down! S'long as I stick to cooking and eating meals at home, I'm concinced I'll start to loose weight :)
Yeay! Good successes everybody.
Roy, your run/walk thing sounds awesome! I like that idea! I am really bad about cheating when I don't write down what I eat, so I thought a couple weeks of that would help get me on track.
Tweety - we are doing good avoiding the junk - one of my co-workers accidentally bought a gallon of ice cream yesterday instead of a 1/2 gallon, so she too was trying to pawn it off on us. It was very tempting, but I prevailed and am really glad I did! I ate a fresh tomato mixed in with an avocado while everybody else indulged in the ice cream. Yeay!
Hi Zoe!
Sounds like everybody is doing really well - cheers! I found out I got the instructor I was hoping to get for clinicals this weekend, so I am very happy - still very nervous and a little scared, but mostly excited! :)
Have a good day y'all!
Didn't do too well on the shoulders yesterday - I don't know why. I went up by a set for each exercise - but they don't feel sore much. Think they can take more punishment? Will know tomorrow - today it's biceps and tricpes again
oooh, and I might just have found a 'bench' that I can use for the bench press and fly :)
Yesterday was the easy walk - 20 minutes walk, 3 minute run, 5 minute walk.
Today, it's 6 minutes walk, 6 minute run, 6 minute walk (repeat 3 times) again :)
I checked my weight yesterday - I've gained 2 pounds! I think I need to monitor fat % more closely... because I'm not sure if this gain is a comination of muscle+fat or something else!
Someone also suggested that I keep track of body measrement (girth). Think I should start that too.
I mean, it's ridiculous otherwise that I've been doing good exercise 5 days a week for three weeks and I've added 4 lbs! :chuckle
I may have said this before but I haven't had ice cream, pastries, chocolates, cakes etc. in ages. My excuse is have (had) bad teeth and eating sugery foods doesn't do them any good.I even refrained from the 4 gallons of ice cream a coworker brought in.
Excuse or fear of the dentist? Whatever, but I avoid them foods like the plague
Tweety - after all that exercise, how DO you do bowling for FUN? Don't your arms fall off at their sockets? :)

This does work well UNTIL YOU GET GOOD AT COOKIN' ! Case in point, a crock pot chicken with veg's that I could not stop eating tonight... at least it wasn't "BAD" bad... but still...
smoooches all around...

Yikes with the BP, that is so gosh darned hard to control. Mine is actually staying in an acceptable range (for me) here lately, so I am happy about that. During our check-off (first one - vitals) on Saturday, mine was 136/78 - I thought that was pretty good considering how stressed I was.
Looks like the healthy thread is a busy place - that is so good to see!!!
I have been keeping a food journal the past 3 days and that is really helping. I do much better when I consciously think about what I ate/am eating. I have managed to fit in lots of fruit and veggies, very little junk food and some meat and dairy. Yeay!!!
Hope everybody has a happy day - it is Monday, but I am really trying to be optimisitic here! :)
