HCC Spring 2012-Houston Community College

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi Everyone,

I'll be applying for HCC Spring 2012. I was intending on taking my prerequisites in the Fall, but I've decided to knock out A&P II and Micro this summer to avoid any complications in the application process. I'm getting conflicting reports that prereqs have to be complete BEFORE the application is due, then others say that I'm allowed 1 course in progress. Not sure, so just to be on the safe side I've opted to register for both courses over the summer.

I hope this thread will bring together all the Houston Community College Spring 2012 applicants.

Goodluck Everyone:D

Also, I got all "A's" in every prerequisite class and my first "B" in Pharmacology last semester. Pharmacology, at Coleman, is much harder than Lonestar, so I was told. But, I am proud of my B! Like I said before, people made it in with C's, so I wouldn't worry about it. Everyone that passed Pharmacology with at least a C, had all their shots, and made a 90% or above on the Pharm. Math test, made it into the Nursing Program.

They say that they have this point system and all, but some people that got in were...well, let's just say they might not make it past the first semester. All I can do is pray for them. :redpinkhe

Good luck!

you've been a blessing here! i have a few questions too. i registered for intro to psychology and ap1 right now and want to apply for fall 2012. i am probably not ready yet and late to apply for spring 2012, (am i?) you have to finish your prereqs even before aplying right? or you can be studying them? so if i get selected to take pharmacology when will i take it? if i apply by april 1 (deadline for fall 2012) are they gonna let me take it in summer so i finish it in time to register for fall?

2. do i only need to complete my prereqs or like it says in the book they strongly suggest that i finish my academic courses to? ap2, microbiology, composition2, lifespan, speech and etc?

3. everybody is talking about the maths test here. when people say here test out on pharmacology maths what does it mean? is there suppose to be a coma between these words or pharmacology course is a maths course? or there are 2 different exams - pharmacology and maths? also i am a transfer student, i have an a in maths statistics which is higher than what they require - an intermediate algebra, do i still have to test out - take a test or they can just count it as if i completed this course and not have to pass a maths exam, is it the one people talking about getting 90% or higher? is it it?

4. to get in to the program you have to take teas now instead of hesi? or you can take either or? where do you take them? at coleman or online? and what are the procedures for it? i heard that they take a picture of you during the exam to make sure that you are you, is it true?

thank you so much in advance for all my silly questions. i am just very nervous how i am gonna make it among thousands of other candidates :(

Hopeful_2013,

I know you're probably super-busy now that you have started class, but when you get a chance, can you please help. Yesterday was the first day of Pharamacology and there was NOT an "Orientation" that took place nor did they speak about future orientations. You spoke about a packet that we should be recieving in the mail....do you think that the "Orientation" information will be given in the packet?? Please help. Someone had asked about the initial "Orientation", and the professor said that shots, background checks, etc. are to be done after we get into the program/ after Pharamcology.

I'm confused.

Its best you start the HEB B shots now because they take a few months to complete. It's obvious that all students need to get their immunizations complete before the first day of classes. If you're trying to get into Spring 2012 give yourself a few months prior to start the immunizations so they'll be complete by the time school starts. Yea there was really no mention of immunizations during the first day of class or what happens after RNSG 1301. I completed my immunizations back in June because I didn't want the hassle during Fall 2011.

CHUNKY MUNKEY,

I'm only lacking TB skin test, flu shot, and the Meningicoccal vaccine. I just want to make sure that I have everything squared away. Hopeful_2013 said that we would be notified of 2 additional orientations, and I'd like to know when those are gonna be. I guess we'll know soon enough.

Thanks.

I really didn't think we were gonna get some sort of "Orientation" on the first day of Pharmcology because after all we really aren't fully in the program yet. They're waiting for us to complete and pass the math test before moving forward with all the nitty gritty details.

CHUNKY MUNKEY,

You're right! Did I see that you applied to UHV BSN program as well? Or was that someone else on another thread??

@careangel I'm applying to UTHSC and other community colleges just in case.

I a anybody taking pharmacology at the katy campus? How is the profesor?

someone please help! i need answers! :redbeathe:redbeathe

1. does the minimum gpa that is calculated for admission consist of non-prereq's or is this for all college courses taken? if so, does this gpa include courses not taken at hcc, or is it just your gpa at hcc? i'm confused. some have said it is only for pre-req's (like at lonestar) and a few others have said that it includes all college level courses.

2. for those who have been accepted, what was your status? what was your gpa on prerequisites? what was your overall (all college courses) gpa? which courses did you complete and which didn't you submit?

was the gpa calculated for only pre-reqs or all college courses taken? btw, you're awesome :)
