HCC Spring 2012-Houston Community College

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi Everyone,

I'll be applying for HCC Spring 2012. I was intending on taking my prerequisites in the Fall, but I've decided to knock out A&P II and Micro this summer to avoid any complications in the application process. I'm getting conflicting reports that prereqs have to be complete BEFORE the application is due, then others say that I'm allowed 1 course in progress. Not sure, so just to be on the safe side I've opted to register for both courses over the summer.

I hope this thread will bring together all the Houston Community College Spring 2012 applicants.

Goodluck Everyone:D

i heard its reopened till sept 1

Really, if thats the case you should definitely apply.

i am just worried about the math issue, i am taking it this fall

@Saraiish, I don't understand what you are asking about Intermediate Algebra....did you take it and fail it and then take the CLEP and fail that too?? Please Clarify.

From what I understand you have to complete and pass Intermediate Algebra (MATH 0312) or higher MATH or test out of it. Did you complete either one of those??

@Saraiish, where did you hear that the application was re-opened?? Im curious because I know several people who missed the deadline. I just tried calling, but I got the sec's voicemail.

Anybody taking the 5-8pm rsng 1301 class section 57777? Have yall bought books yet?

I am gladysp!!!! I purchased Cal. w/ Conf. online at HPB, and I'm waiting for HCC bookstore to call so that I can pick up Pharmacology Connections to Nursing.

Hello everyone, I have a couple of questions and was hoping if some of you could help me out a bit. I plan on applying to the nursing program at HCC within the next month. I spoke to a counselor about and she told me that I basically have to take two tests, TEAS and pharmacology math, to get in at this school. So my question are:

1. Is the TEAS test harder than the HESI test? and is there anyplace or a website I can visit to prepare me for it?

2. Is there a pharmacology math website that I can visit to help me refresh myself?

3. In A&p 1 and 2 I made B's, and pharm I made an A......does this even matter or do they go mostly by the entrance exams? Do I need to retake the A&P's?

I pretty much have taken all the prereqs for HCC but i'm a transfer student from Lonestar. I've already taken pharmacology, but they told me it's required that I take the math test. I really want to refresh myself since I took this course about a year ago lol.

Suavion,

Congratulations on choosing HCC Coleman College and doing so well in your prerequisite classes! B's are fine; you do not need to retake those classes. I was just accepted into the Program, so here is my advice to your questions...

1. The TEAS is a bit harder than the HESI, but they have many practice books. Choose what's best for you.

2. I'm unaware of a Pharm. website that will help you with this test. The test is very basic. You need to brush up on your Basic conversions, Dose calculations, Hourly rate (mL/hr), Drop factor, Time (gtt/min), and your IV calculations. The best book for you to study with is: Calculate with Confidence 5th Edition or higher by: Deborah Gray Morris. Study Chapters: 8, 14, 17, and 22 at the very least.

3. Nope. B's are fine. I know people who made it into the program with C's, but I would shoot for at least B's.

Good luck!!!

hello everyone, i have a couple of questions and was hoping if some of you could help me out a bit. i plan on applying to the nursing program at hcc within the next month. i spoke to a counselor about and she told me that i basically have to take two tests, teas and pharmacology math, to get in at this school. so my question are:

the deadline was suppose to be back on aug 1st. not sure if they've extended their deadline. according to others in this forum hcc has extended their deadline. you can be sure until you contact hcc directly.

1. is the teas test harder than the hesi test? and is there anyplace or a website i can visit to prepare me for it? personally, for me that is, the teas was much more intense than the hesi. others can say the opposite about the teas vs. hesi exam. i took the hesi before hcc switched over to the teas.

2. is there a pharmacology math website that i can visit to help me refresh myself? best thing to do is go over your old notes and refresh your memory before taking the pharmacology exam for hcc.

3. in a&p 1 and 2 i made b's, and pharm i made an a......does this even matter or do they go mostly by the entrance exams? do i need to retake the a&p's? its difficult to say how hcc manages their actual admissions process, but the minimum requirements are clearly laid out on their website.

i pretty much have taken all the prereqs for hcc but i'm a transfer student from lonestar. i've already taken pharmacology, but they told me it's required that i take the math test. i really want to refresh myself since i took this course about a year ago lol.

best thing is to contact hcc about retaking ap i/ii.

Thank you so much for replying to my post hopeful_2013!!!!!! I'm feeling a lot better about the grades now that you said that. Lonestar seems to want everyone to make A's in every course or you don't get in. I'm going to do a search for TEAS books and definitely check out that Calculate with confidence book to prepare for the math test! I'll keep you updated on my progress!

By the way, are you already in the program?

I sure am! My first day of Nursing School is tomorrow! :D
