HCC Spring 2012-Houston Community College

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi Everyone,

I'll be applying for HCC Spring 2012. I was intending on taking my prerequisites in the Fall, but I've decided to knock out A&P II and Micro this summer to avoid any complications in the application process. I'm getting conflicting reports that prereqs have to be complete BEFORE the application is due, then others say that I'm allowed 1 course in progress. Not sure, so just to be on the safe side I've opted to register for both courses over the summer.

I hope this thread will bring together all the Houston Community College Spring 2012 applicants.

Goodluck Everyone:D

I finished all the prereqs including the supporting courses(ENGL 1302, SPCH 1318, BIOL 2402, BIOL 2420, PSYC 2314, & Humanities). I think its actually better to finish them because it'll give me an opportunity to focus on RNSG courses. Courseload won't be as heavy.

ok cool, thanks. do you think i could wait until after applying to complete biol 2402 and biol 2420? i've been looking at this guide to plan my admission, what do you think about it? i have all the other courses. also, does the minimum gpa that is calculated for admission consist of non-prereq's or is this for all college courses taken? if so, does this gpa include courses not taken at hcc, or is it just your gpa at hcc? i'm confused. some have said it is only for pre-req's (like at lonestar) and a few others have said that it includes all college level courses.

the choice to wait on taking biol 2402 and biol 2420 is really up to you. you know the hard work it took to absorb the material for ap i, translate that into learning new rnsg material and take both apii/micro at the same time while in the adn program. it's doable, but you'll have a full load. unless you have a really solid ap i foundation then by all means wait to take it while you're in the adn program. the best thing to remember is to be realistic in your planning of courses. it's easy for a person to fool themselves into thinking they can handle a full load, but realistically they struggled with ap. remain realistic in your own abilities, only you can judge what you're capable of doing.

the guide is a template that hcc recommends. you see that the support courses of ap/micro etc is under "pre-admission." pre=before. they recommend that you complete it, but is not counted against you if you don't.

i'm not exactly sure how hcc calculates their gpa.

ok thanks. the reason i choose not to take it is because i don't think i'll be done in time (for fall 2012) unless i catch one of the 2nd 8 week courses, since the semester has already started. i'm a current emt-b, so i have a good working knowledge of a&p already. thanks for the info! if anyone else knows how hcc (houston community college) calculates their gpa (2.0), whether it soley depends on prereqs or all courses taken, please let me know!

jazmincasha,

I THINK that the GPA is calculated solely on the required Pre-reqs you have taken (no matter where they were taken). Try calling the secretary's office and asking.

BTW...I would get all BIOs out of the way. At least try to get ALL Pre-reqs out of the way. You, nor myself know what to expect out of the nursing curriculum. Micro and AP II have a crazy amount of information to remember, and taking that along with RNSG courses may be extremely difficult. BUT, if you think you can handle it, by all means go for it! I'm sure there is a good reason why they want us to complete them prior to getting into the program. You're a trooper!!! :)

Hey everyone,

I was told from my Professor that other Pharm classes had already taken the Pharm test this semester. Just wanted to know if any of you all had taken the test??

What class are you in, CareAngel? I am in the 8-11 AM Monday class and we have not had any tests yet.

I'm taking the 5-8PM class @ the Coleman Campus. Maybe she was just rambling and trying to intimidate us. She said something to the effect " Ya know, some of your fellow classmates just took the test this week and have failed, so know that this test will not be easy." I hate when teachers do that! Anyway, I just thought I'd ask.

I am in the 9am at Katy campus and ours is in Nov. Sounds likes she was just trying a scare tactic!

Geez, what a way to try to encourage students by BS'ing them.

Totally new to posting here, but I am currently taking AP 1 and PSYC 2301 at the Stafford campus. Doing well so far, but all this talk about math and pharm has me feeling sick to my stomach..I've been out of school for 15 years, I have a large family to care for and I need to know what I need to do...when I visited Coleman this summer, I was told I could take pharm before I apply to the ADN program. I plan on applying spring 2012. Do I need to take some sort of math refresher since I've been out of school sooooo long? I'm a really good student, and I know I can pick it up quickly, but I don't want to fail some entrance exam just because I could have taken a simple math class and didn't know about it....I'm scared guys!!! I want this really really bad and so far, I still have an A average in AP1 after two tests and I think I made an A on my first psych test....someone help me...please...lol.

I plan on taking pharm this spring, but can I even do that without getting some sort of acceptance letter or invitation from HCC? Will I be able to take that class at the Stafford campus or is that solely a Coleman class?
