HCC Spring 2012-Houston Community College

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi Everyone,

I'll be applying for HCC Spring 2012. I was intending on taking my prerequisites in the Fall, but I've decided to knock out A&P II and Micro this summer to avoid any complications in the application process. I'm getting conflicting reports that prereqs have to be complete BEFORE the application is due, then others say that I'm allowed 1 course in progress. Not sure, so just to be on the safe side I've opted to register for both courses over the summer.

I hope this thread will bring together all the Houston Community College Spring 2012 applicants.

Goodluck Everyone:D

@CareAngel... we just took ours and from what I can tell the grades ran the whole gamut, from 90+ to 60-. But a lot of people got in the 80's so relax and just keep studying, once you take this first one you will definitely know how to study for the subsequent tests. Do you guys get a review? I hear some profs are giving reviews, ours is not one of them!

so sorry for the delay in responding!!! the weekend was crazy busy and then i was studying a and p for what seems like forever....I'm a little disappointed to hear I may have to push everything back by a semester, but a semester isn't that long, right? It could be a good thing...On a side note, I did take College Algebra at Wharton years ago but got a D....would they consider that? Imean, i would rather take it over again just to have it fresh in my mind, but if it means I could get accepted to take pharm, then I could take it in the spring....I am willing to jump through hoops to get this done, I just need to know where they are! hehehe....I will go check my friends to see if you're there....going to pick kids up from school right now! talk to you soon. thanks.

I don't know if they would accept that. You have to have C's or better in all classes related to the nursing program so I don't think so but college algebra is 314 and you only have to be able to pass or test out of 312 so you obviously can handle a higher math. That would be a great question for a counselor at Coleman!

Yeah, I kind of figured a D wouldn't cut it....that was back in my younger years when I was screwing up. Now I know I could handle it. I'm going to the ER meeting this tuesday at noon to see what new info I can find out. I am really crossing my fingers that I can pull this off and apply for the fall of 2012, but I can handle it if I don't get to do that. Spring 2013 works too!

Many of us will be taking the math pharm test on October 31. Halloween day!!!!

Question:

How many questions are on the pharm test??

Allinknots,

We have a "blueprint". Not sure how its going to help though. We'll see how it goes.

very important shots info:

i don't know what they have told you all but, you need to make sure you get your hep b vaccinations out of the way. you also need to get a titer done for varicella (chicken pox), to prove you had it. they will not accept a letter from your doctor for us, they wanted valid proof. if you didn't have chicken pox, you need to get your varicella zoster vaccination asap. you now need to have your meningicoccal vaccination, which we weren't told until the last second. good thing for me i was in the army and have every vaccination known to man inside my body. :lol2: remember, never wait to do anything at the last second. they were turning away students left and right because they didn't have certain vaccines in a certain time frame. be prepared! you do not need your physical and drug test until you get the proper paperwork from coleman college, which you will receive on your 1st day of orientation. on your 1st day of orientation, they will check off everyone who has their vaccinations completed. now, wouldn't you like to be one of those lucky students who have everything (shots) completed so you don't have to mess with the hassel?

immunization list:

meningicoccal vaccination

tdap

mmr (2 different times)

hbv (3 different times)

chicken pox titer or varicella zoster vaccination

flu shot (seasonal) if in season*

tb test or x-ray, if known + (lasts only 1 year)

i hope i helped! :D good luck, everyone!

hi, i just took the hesi today and i'm trying to get my pre reqs done and will attempt to apply to hhc next. i'm going to the er on the 20th. i'm going to talk to someone from the school today. what other information do i need i'm prior military so i think i'm good on the shots, but i'm sure the wait will be long so what should i do in between time? my plan right now is to get as many classes out of the way while i'm waiting. i heard people talking about they may not be taking the hesi anymore. do you know if they have began to implement that yet? any other helpful information you may have would be greatly appreciated too. thanks

@ Romona,

I'm sure you'll find out a lot of information at the ER session. I really don't want to say anything to you because things keep changing as far as the application process. I heard that they are not accepting the HESI anymore, and that we were the last group to have to take it. They are going to start using the TEAS exam (btw, it's so much harder! At least I thought it was.) I would just make sure that all the required pre-reqs are completed. Once you get accepted into Pharm then the will direct you on what needs to be completed. All I would worry about is getting into the Pharm class and PASSING it (as well as the Pharm test)!!

OMG i just studied so hard to pas the HESI. Can I take the Pharm class now somewhere else? Where can I get study material for the other test? How often is it given? I haven't moved to HOuston yet. Thanks

You can take the Pharm class anywhere, however follow up with the Secratary in the HCC Nursing Dept. so that she can notify you when its time to take the Pharm test. Those who choose to take Pharm at a different school must go through a different process in taking the Pharm Test. I'm not sure what it is.

As far as the TEAS is concerned, go to atitesting.com and click "register for TEAS". Follow the prompts and it will tell you where you can take it. I believe you can take it anywhere, however ask at the ER session. As for the study materials, you can purchase them at the same website as well. I'm not for sure if HCC has "officially" changed to the TEAS, so don't panic just yet.

Are you in the LVN or RN program? I'm waiting for someone to call me back now. I sure hope they haven't changed and if they have then I'll just get to studying now...lol...How long after you applied did it take for you to get in? I'm trying not to panic just yet. Thanks again

Why would you take the HESI??? HCC is no longer accepting HESI scores as of August 1, 2011. They transitioned from HESI to TEAS.

@Romona, There ya go! Start panicing/studying! :) I would do everything a soon as you can so that you can get approved for the Spring Semester to take Pharm. Just a thought....ask how long the Pharm class is going to be in the Spring (Full 16wks or 8wks). I heard they were going to condense it to 8 wks starting the Spring, although I'm not sure. That's what our teacher told us. I think its because they want to give those another chance if they fail the class to re-take it the same semester. I'm applying for the ADN. BTW, could you have obtained an ADN in the military?

@CHUNKY MUNKEY, Thanks for that tidbit of info. I wasn't sure when it was going into effect.
