Nurses Relations

Published

There are a lot of nurses that get up in the morning and drink a large (sometimes in Merica, a XL) cup of hater-aid?? I'm a very easy going guy, never expect anything anyone. But it sure does solidify an article I read that nurses eat their young and the lateral aggression that exists in this field. Just saying its prevalent.

Before you throw stones, make darn sure you are not in the proverbial glass house. Looking for trouble? YOU WILL FIND IT. You can control ONE major factor: YOUR ATTITUDE.

There's a lot of horizontal violence in nursing, and in health care in general. BUT the atmosphere vairies a lot depending on the unit or facility you work in. It's hard to make an informed choice as a new nurse, since you don't know what to look for.

Try this approach:

"As nurses purposefully implement the strategies described in this article, they will become skilled communicators. The bottom line is that a healthy work environment begins with each individual nurse, i.e., it begins with you!"

lol when i read the preview i thought it was going to be about nurses drinking massive cups of zillion-calorie frappucinos /lattes / "coffee" drinks that are basically 99% cream and sugar and 1% actual coffee everyday. i was all ready to be like 'yeah that's disgusting' and then the topic wasn't about that at all.

My facility has started a "Healthy Beverage Initiative". They have eliminated all sugary soda over 8 ozs, all the frappe/latte type beverages from all hospital based venders, even for pts. All drinks for sale have little color coded dots on them. Green for really healthy, yellow for okay but limit and red for the under 8oz non diet sodas.

I would comment but it violate TOS

ALOT!!!!!!!!!!!

You mean this is NOT a joke...?!? I started reading your post with a smile, thinking it funny.....then realized you MIGHT be SERIOUS???

I happen to like diet soda as a preference, and tend to be careful of indulgences. But if I feel like having some sugar....just try and stop me! :yeah:

Nope, not at all! I'm currently working registry while job hunting for a full time job and everyone is super helpful and nice. You know what they say about when you smell poop all day? Better take a look at your own shoes first!

Did you drink, Sionainn?

On this forum, it seems like most are quickly to judge. Look at my previous post and right away someone was like, you must pay your dues etc... I'm just saying there is some generalizations made. I didn't mean to start a whole thread on this. My real life experiences with the nurses I've worked with were great. So what if what I want to do is CRNA, many of my friends parents are CRNAs. I had a great exp with one while I was following him during an open-heart surgery. None of them talked to me like people on here.

Just seems when you say your going to advance your degree they look at you like oh another kid who thinks he's a hot shot. I'm not only confident, but competent. And again Im not saying I know it all. Sorry I want to get comfortable before I have a family.

Haters gonna hate, man. Let people judge you and tell you that you can't succeed. Let their doubts be the mortar in your pathway to success.

I don't imagine that you talked to them as you talk to people here either. You get back what you put out.

I'm sorry, but this sentiment gives off a vibe of immaturity, at least where it comes to how one is perceived by others in their work environment.

Can't say I've ever looked at anyone who said he wanted to advance his education and thought "oh another kid who thinks he's a hot shot". I most certainly HAVE looked at someone that way who was talking beyond his knowledge and therefore coming across foolishly. As in "that hot shot talks like he knows it all...and he knows precious little".

The attitude one projects is usually the one batted right back at him, in my experience, anyway. New grads who are eager to learn and don't come in with a chip on their shoulders tend to do very well. Those who come in as though they intend to set everyone ELSE straight, though....tend not to. SO MANY new grads come in and talk about continuing their educational path, and pretty much everyone I know around me (yep, 'old' nurses) think it's GREAT. But come across like an arrogant jerk and not too many are gonna be thrilled for ya!

And if someone has to SAY he's not a know-it-all....maybe it's because he's continually coming off that way.

I have no idea what any of that has to do with having a family....I think I missed that part.
