Have you met your husband at nursing? Is nursing a good career to meet men?

No this is not my reason for entering.

Just a curious question.

And if so... Do tell.

If you are looking for good looking men... become a psych nurse :) We used to call them bouncers in nursing school. They're all so tall... and the muscles ;) No. I did not get into nursing for "the men". I know a childhood acquaintance that married a doctor 1-2 years after graduating. She hasn't worked as a nurse since, but she and her lil doctors kids have a beautiful life in a beautiful house with a seemingly intelligent and pleasant man. It's worked out well for her ;)

The ER nurses can tend to come off a little desperate to the medics on the fire department, and then the nurses have a attitude with the entire department when it doesn't work out, we all have to suffer so please No!!!

I met my first husband at work. You never would have known we were dating. In fact, there was one nurse who was gung-ho to hook us up... but we were already dating

I was an aide and he was maintenance... unfortunately, about 12 years later, I caught him doing maintenance on the neighbor lady, sooooo......

When I worked long-term care, the sweet (married) 70 something guy with dementia I took care of would tell me I needed to sneak out the window so his mom didn't catch us.

I received a number of marriage proposals on the psych unit. LTC, too, probably.

So, no. Nope nope nope.

No usually the people I see the most are older nurses married with kids, icky patients, the occasional hot guy as a patient but a patient is off limits always if you have any self respect as a professional, and the Docs are usually not so good looking foreign men a little too old to my taste. The residents come and go and when they leave you never see them again so that's a no too. Nope, nursing isn't the most love friendly career. Have you tried match or eharmony?

^This^ hooking up with a patient is a definite ethical and boundaries issue.

Having worked in 2 places wherein many young residents rotate through your unit on a regular basis, some people made a spectacle of themselves without realizing how it looked to others. Every little bat of the eyelashes is magnified many times by the gossip mill, and people will talk about you.

I recall an intern describing how he was almost accosted by an enthusiastic admirer in a secluded utility room. His only comment "her a** was so tight, a dime would bounce off"

Moral of the story-- be discreet! Agree that if things go south you will not do tandem trash-talk on anyone who will listen!

I did meet my last husband at work. After all, that is where I spent the majority of my time.

He was a nurse,I was also dating a doctor, a lot of male patients asked me out.

You will meet a lot of men in nursing, you will also meet a lot of men at the grocery store.

You must be really pretty,

I never meet men anywhere.

Nursing school had very few men available so I started hanging around the local university that had more men than women, met an engineering student and got my MRS degree at one school and my ADN at another.

If I was to start looking now, I would have a hard time meeting people at work. Most of the available people are so much younger.

Looks are a plus, but attitude goes a long way! I'm 50, get guessed for 30-35, and get asked out for more dates than ladies half my age. I'm not Miss America, but I laugh, smile, and try to keep a good sense of humor about any situation. A bad attitude is the biggest turnoff. EVER!
