The community wants to express some love to the healthcare workers. They set up a little area , they go all out, cook food, give out nice little trinkets. One problem it is from 6:30pm to 8:00pm.

One popular chain set up at my job. We could get something for free. They were there until 8:30p . I come in at 7pm. I was busy non-stop until midnight.

I'm sure it was nice.

My HH agency had a Holiday party that was 9-5 on a Thursday. No one brought us our gifts either. WOW! thanks!

It is not the fault of the restaurant or organization who wants to give us something. They don't know our schedule or how things run, the administration knows though.

Small-town hospital -- SNF, ED, med-surg, and clinic all on one campus. Local food place brings up lunch in the early days of the COVID buildup, and we in the clinic find out about it when the ED/med-surg manager posts pictures on the hospital district's facebook page thanking the place for bringing lunch for "the whole staff".... of the ED and med-surg, as it turned out. I mean it was very nice of them, and no skin off my nose, but we're part of the staff too.

As working in nights all the time. Local food businesses and churches keep bringing food for day shift. Sometimes we find some bad looking or already spoiled leftover sitting on the table in our lounge room.

Also all the events held in the time we sleep like 10 am etc.

We are really the step children...

My current health system is the king of poorly implemented perks. Free lunch for Nurses' Week, in the cafeteria, but only between 11am and 12:30pm, and only one line for the entire hospital's nurses. Waiting in line for my entire break for cold, mediocre, free food is just what I always wanted!

Same problem with massages. You had to leave the unit and wait in line, so all the charge nurses and NMs went because they didn't have patients that needed to be covered. The rest of us were too busy and when we needed one of them to cover for us, there were meetings they had to go to. Not saying they shouldn't have gotten massages, but definitely saying I don't know any floor nurse who did.

No, but in the future, a healthcare worker may want know that so they don't burden that particular daycare provider with their business

Won't matter much. Freq waiting lists exist for childcare openings. Somebody else will just take the vacant open spot.

I didn't think it matter where a parent worked when they took them to daycare? Are healthcare workers a hassle to deal with for daycare centers?

I still think it's a pretty junky way to treat potential customers. I bet they sure would've took the money when times were better

There's a couple day care's around here that don't like health care parents either. My friend had a heck of a time finding a good one but the kicker is they charge her a $15.00 fee for every 15 minutes she is late picking her daughter up. We all know sometimes it's just not possible to get out of work on time but she usually manages.

Three issues - 1) there's a belief that HCWs could be possibly 'contaminating' DC little ones and the staff there (just by the virtue of HCWs being in contact with 'germs'. (Like we all just roll around and swim in 'germs').

2) Then as PP kbrn posted - HCWs sometimes just run late. The DC has to stay open and that means paying their staff OT.

3) And also, HCWs can also be a very discerning and observant population who can critique less than well-run operations. This could be a risk to the DC for closure or investigation for poor/questionable practices.

At this C19 time, I would bet that it's the 'contamination' issues, esp if the DC has been taking flak from other mommies & daddies with the concern.

Along the same lines as PP kbrn, my personal PMP was 'OK cool' if I ran a little late for any my appts. But if I got her boss associate (and practice owner) HE was not as considerate. I was charged $$. I found new providers. Shame because I really liked my PMP. She understood that as the only house RN (from NOC shift) I sometimes had to cover the NH house until the dayshift RN management leisurely 'rolled' in.
