Have I waited too long after graduation??!

Published

I really need some advice! I graduated in April/2006 and passed my boards in Feb/2007. Since it took so long for me to get ATT, I had to take another job as a manager at a weight loss center. I had a baby in March and have now returned back to work. I am now ready to start work as a nurse but I am so scared and nervous that I have forgotten a lot of imp. info! What should I do? I love my job now, but I didn't get the RN title to not use it! Has anyone else waited too long, or just a long time? Any input would be appreciated! (-:

This may sound trite, but everybody's got to start somewhere, sometime. Of course you will have forgotten some things and have many things to learn. But everyone at your first job will know it is your first job and you will be treated like any other new grad. Just go for it!

Added thought: Just remembered the thread about flu clinics. My first job as a licensed nurse was doing flu clinics. Fun way to get started. It is now June. They usually start hiring for flu clinics around late July or August. Might be a good way to get started. You can work around your current job. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply! Greatly appreciated(-:

I'm going to be another one who waits.... Graduated May 17th, waiting to take my RN boards this fall/winter (summer way too busy with kids ball games, pool, lake, activities etc).

caliotter3 - Where do you recommend looking for flu clinic positions?

Thank you

Companies that sponsor flu clinics usually run ads in local newspapers starting in late July or August. Other than watching diligently for these you can look for Maxim Healthcare in your city and ask when they will be starting their clinics. Maxim is a major provider of clinics throughout the nation. Other companies that provide flu clinics might not advertise. Some hospital systems do it. Some VNAs do it. Another poster stated she's working for Interim during this season's flu season. If you can't find the ads in the paper you have to look around and call. Hope this helps.

Thank you very much for your help! Chloe

kurlly1 - you may also want to consider checking with your school for continuing ed or refresher courses to get you back into the swing of things.

I graduated May 2006 and took nclex in March 2007,( in the past 5 years there have been many life changing experiences that I went through involving deaths and surgeries. After I graduated I just needed some time to stop.breath.and listen.) I applied for some positions but found out I applied too late. My 'last resort' hospital had an open house about a month ago and I find out today if I will be accepted into their ICU 12 month paid internship. So my 'last resort' hospital may actually turn out to be a blessing in disguise....the place where I was meant to be. I plan on re-reading my skills text and reviewing my a&p and I'll be fine. As one of the previous posts read, everone knows you are new and I'm SURE you remember MORE than you think you do. Once you start applying/practicing your knowledge, it will all start coming back again.

Thank you. I like that idea and will contact them!

Thanks. 12 mo paid intership sounds like something i would LOVE as I am interested in ICU. Best of luck to you!

I just posted the same question. I graduated this past january and I wont start looking for a job till january 08. I felt that it was too long but I guess not. where you able to find a job? How long was it that you waited for?
