Hello All, I am trying to find some information on placing babies prone. Why do NICU nurses do this? Is it good for them developmentally wise? I had read somewhere that it helps with the diaphram development, is this true? Do they like being in this position. I am an LVN and postpartum doula and am looking for some research on this. I find that laying my babies on their side helps them sleep alot better than they would on their backs. I know that placing them on their side turns off the MORO reflex so they are more comfortable sleeping on their sides. I look forward to you replys and thank you in advance!

Well im not planning on working in hospitals. I prefer to work in clinics, doctors offices. The agency told me that they would send me to adult day centers first since I am a new grad and then to nursing homes. Is that possible? Or are they just desperate and dont care about me or my license?

So you never worked staff anywhere?? You just went straight to agency after graduating?? Thinking of doing the same but wasnt to sure if that could really work out.

I get told that all the time, but not when it comes to the patients, nurses tell me that im too sensitive when being treated badly by another nurse or whenever I have to hear about another nurse gossiping about me behind my back ( which is something I cant stand) I cant stand it when im told im too sensitive, what does that mean.! Too sensitive? compared to who? Thats the way I am and im not going to try to change that for anybody. Thats so sad that in a profession where its suppsed to be about caring for others, us nurses are so cruel to eachother. It doesnt make any sense. And whats the worst is that when someone says oh you can t be a nurse your too sensitive, they are mostly refering to the mistreatment you will get from other nurses!! unbelieveable!!!

I have started so many threads, and learned so much from everyones advice. I just have a few more questions. I am a new LVN. Ive worked in a hospital for a few months realized that wasnt the place for me. I see so many nurses writting threads about traveling to this country and this country and working. I want to do that!!! I am young and I know I need the experience and my RN, right?? But this is my problem, I dont like hospitals! I tried it and did not like it at all, I prefer to work at clinics. So.. is it posible to travel to different countries and work if you only want to work in clinics?? Well im not completely shutting out other facilities, just dont like hospitals. SO, Please you experienced nurses help me! I am so confused I dont know what direction to go in, and I want to make the best decision for my future. I have an interview next week for a clinic job,in "family medicine". Is that a good idea?? I do want to go on to get my RN though. OK last question. Has anybody gone to another country to get their RN? Is that possible?? JUst a thought.

Hows it gonna go??/ I called an agency today and sked them if they did per diem but for clinics and docs offices and they told me they did and wanted to send me to one, they didnt really care that I had no experience, which I thought was kinda starnge even if it is a just a clinic. I decided to go on an interview for a full time clinic job and get the one year experience there and then move on to the agency and do per diem work with them. I go to the interview on thursday. Anyways, please fill me in on what they told you. So you are probably gonna get oriented for a while and then what youll be per diem?? When do you start?? Let me know how it goes, you interviwed for a nursing home right??? What would your job duties be??

Hey tweety , I forgot to ask you, besides nursing homes and hospitals where else do agencys send you?? I dont really want to work in a hospital or nursing home. I tried working in a hospital and did not like it. I am interested in home health but I know you need experience to work home health, so whats left?? DO you know of any other per diem positions besides hospitals and nursing homes?? Maybe clinics?? thanks!!

Hey tweety thanks for the info, I know that as a new lvn I cant really ask for much, my plan was to ask if there was something that we could work out, maybe there are other nurses out there that have done this, thats all I wanted to know. When I say work something out I mean , for example, not get any pto, or benefits, or work extra days whenver they need me. I dont know if thats totally crazy , im just throwing it out there, maybe its not possible, but thats why I am here and asking. Thanks again for the info.

Hello, no I do not have much experience. I worked in a hospital for a couple of months but did not like it, didnt like the stress and passing meds, this is why I decided to move on to clinics. I am very happy being an LVN but thanks for the advice. And yes I do want to live in the US, I would just like to set my own hours. I understand that most people dont have their familys living next door, but I am not most people.

What if you want to work per diem but don't want to work in hospitals or nursing homes? Do you have any other options? I would love to work per diem so I can make my own schedule but i don't want to work in a hospital or nursing home. Anything left?

Hello everyone! I just need some advice on what to do, so here it goes; I have family that lives outside the US, and its very important to me to be able to visit them at least twice a year for four weeks at a time. The ticket out there is very expensive so it is not worth it to just go out there for less than four weeks.My parents are getting older and I really want to be able to visit them more often. So my question is, is anybody else in my situation?? Where they have to have the time off, and if so, what kinds of things can you work out with your boss or offer them to be able have that time off. I asking for too much?? I really hope not, this is very important to me, so if there is anyone out there in my same situation that was able to work something out or knows of something that I can do please let me know, I am pretty much desperate. Thanks so much!

So basically per diem is you work when you want, like an on-call type of thing. And if they do require you work a certain amount of time, its very little right?? Like maybe one day per month?? Thanks for your help!
