Have I ruined my chance at being accepted into an RN-BSN program?

Published

I am a RN and I would like to earn a BSN. I previously was enrolled in the RN-BSN online program at UTA. I was unable to complete the program due to having a miscarriage that was physically and emotionally difficult. I was discontinued from the program. I have decided to go back to school. I contacted WGU and I am currently in the process of submitting all the information required for them to make a decision. I'm worried that because I was discontinued from UTA, that I will not be able to get into WGU or another RN-BSN online program. I am interested in WGU because you are able to go at your own pace and I do not have any unrealistic expectations to finish in 6 months. I work full time and have a family, so I know that it will take time and a lot of hard work. My goal is to become an FNP. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm very disappointed that I wasn't able to complete the program at UTA, because it wasn't something that I hadn't planned to happen.

Can you elaborate on being "discontinued?" I'm not sure I've heard of this before. If you're kicked out of a program for academic dishonesty, that definitely hurts you. I don't see how they can ban you from returning if you took a leave of absence or took a "break."

Puhleeeze...there's a myriad of RN-to-BSN programs that will happily grant you admission as long as you have an RN license, a pulse, and a checkbook/financial aid.

I've never heard of anyone not finding at least one RN-to-BSN to grant admission.

I wasn't discontinued because of academic dishonesty. I could not complete the work because I had a difficult miscarriage. I failed the classes. Im concerned that will prevent me from being accepted into another BSN program.

I am not so sure that will effect another program, but before you spend any money I would ask that question of one of their academic advisors.

You wouldn't want to invest the $ into something that then won't work.

Although I have to say that if you were unsuccessful in a class, I would think that you just take the class again. Much like you would at a brick and mortar school.

I would also see about resources like "APA format" programs and the like. Anything that is a current way of completing work, that may be unfamiliar to you.

Best wishes!

I would have been able to finish the classes if I had not had a miscarriage. I had to have surgery due to complications from the miscarriage. I was asking if failing due to not completing the classes would keep me from being accepted into a BSN program.

I think if you explain you had a medical situation and that was the reason for stepping out at the time, maybe they will understand. did you have a GPA when you left? Ive bailed out of my program a couple times, dropped classes, etc, but had reasons, and was able to be re admitted.

Is this an online school, or is it where you could speak to someone like the chairperson or something.

I'd keep trying.

What is so wrong with speaking with admission advisor? It is free of charge

And, yes, for for-profits everything you need to have is your unencumbered RN license and a source of money. Pulse, breathing and body temperature are optional.

Somebody somewhere will admit you. You may be admitted on academic probation or they may require you to take remedial classes prior to being fully admitted, but sooner or later you will get accepted. You will, however, most likely have to work much harder and spend more money than the average Joe.

This is what I was thinking when I asked for the specifics about being discontinued. How long ago was this? I don't see why you couldn't return and retake the classes, that's what most programs allow regardless of why you failed, and you certainly have a valid reason.

Moved to Nursing programs/schools

No one is going to touch you. There's a billion people that want that spot that have proved they can get through a program. No one cares about you back story all they see is you failed out of a program.
