there is a school in atlanta, ga that is putting out "basic care nurses" they advertise that they get all the skills of lpn in six months, with no core classes, no nclex, no regulation at all and all for the price of $6,600 ruffly. oh and guess what is it is taught by "docs".
this makes me mad!!!!!!!:angryfire who do they think they are?:stone i am working hard for my lpn, not to mention the stressing over it:sniff: , these people are not doing any of that and are calling themselfs nurses!!!!
have any of you heard of this and what do you think? are there any others out there?:uhoh21:
:angryfire
Oh my goodness! Ummmmmm...sounds very very fishy to me! Heck...I have my ASN...took the same state boards as BSN's with half the time, and I get slack~! Let alone the wonderful hard working LPN's I work with (who give their all plus some just to get some respect from other healthcare professionals in my experience..yours may differ)...
Ummmmmmm NOT! Not going to buy that one! I am curious to how much they get to pay for that...poor things! It is like those comericals I laugh at daily "you want to change careers into a job that gives you life fulfillment...become a CNA...where you can take vital signs, work with doctors (yeah right), and become a respected memeber of the healthcare team! Okay...hello, reality here, not going to happen!
They say there is no such thing as a free lunch..okay I agree..but I add..the old addage...if it looks to good to be true, it usually is!
Yea, and you know a diploma or certificate or whatever butt wiper they hand out from this school is something most self respecting people would be ashamed of...something you hide in a bag in the closet, not something you frame and hang up. I feel sorry for the schmucks that fall into this trap...

This is totally unreasonable! For an LPN with the tallent better than most RN's to feel this! I honor my LPN's..they are considered my mentors! They have been there fighting more than me...and stick to it!!!!!!! They have real life expereince..not held by the old book learn on Orem or heck....Freud for whatever purpose! Plain old out human sence..I value their oppinion far above my own mentor...and she does too!
The trick it..find your priorities, stick with them...just find those that give you reason because there are a heck of a lot of folks out there that won't..but make you think so!
LPN's are part of the health care team..so are CNA's, Paramedics..even those pain the ..ummmmm...well fire paras...but, it is the patient that counts...then after...those with the best bar tab win! LOL!!!! J/K LOL!!!!

Sounds like glorified Medical Assistant. You know the commercials "You too can be in the medical profession in as little as 6 months". I wish them luck in finding a decent job. I don't believe a hospital will hire them unless it's as a tech and you can do that in 6 weeks and for far less than $6.600. I don't see how it could ever amount to much.

It's the main reason I quit. I was not certified to perform an ABG but shown once and told "Go for it." I would always hunt down an RT or another phlebotomist and beg them to do to avoid having to do it myself, it got me in trouble numerous times especially when I was the only phlebotomist in the entire hospital.let me ask you, if you hit their nerve, are you liable??? are you insured for malpractice?
I was frequently pulled aside by my supervisor and asked why an ABG wasn't done in a timely fashion. My reply was always "I had to find someone who could do it." This was the beginning of a downward spiral between me and the supervisor since I was asked to do numerous things I was not in any way qualified to do or witnessed things that should not have happened. I was the only person in the entire lab that had a problem with any of it. I was gone within four months of starting the job.

I'm an RN in South Carolina. I know that here NURSE is a protected title. Are you and the Board of Nursing in general aware of this school that is advertising to educate "basic care nurses" in 6 months? It is the Nightingale Institute. The web page is http://www.ajcjobs.com/wl/Content.jsp?Content=/careercenter/stages/articles/educ_092004_raines.htmlIf the Board isn't aware I hope this will help your investigation.
Sincerely
Patricia
I guess I must have purged the one to Georgia, but it said basically the same thing.
