Has nursing made you negative?

Nurses General Nursing

I noticed this problem at the end of first year. I became a really negative person, hated life, thought everything was unfair, and I'm 100% sure it was because of my first year of nursing.

I did a complete 360 on my negativity the next year, and made many new friends and started my own business while in my second year of nursing. But, I only was able to do this because I started to focus on things outside of nursing. I still get straight As, but my heart is not in it.

Is it just me? Do I just not like nursing? Or does anybody else experience this?

No, it has not.

Nursing has made me sardonic.

Good way to describe it =D

Nursing has made me sardonic.

Are you sure you weren't already like that? I think I was.

I felt the same way my first year and I was never like this before nursing. I eventually got over it, but only through focusing on my self-improvement. It's an annoying state of mind to be in.

I was just a sweet young thing, in love with nursing, when I set off in my crisp white cap, white hose and duty shoes. A smart @$$ for sure, but not yet sardonic.

Yes!

Navy sweater, hair in a pony, no nail polish and just a touch of lip gloss, shiny nursing pin and brand new watch with a second hand that glowed in the dark! [emoji7]

Now I wear black, my hair down, light blue nail polish, and I try not to curse.

Not negative. Just a bit more broken in.

Nursing has made me more cynical of people and their agendas. About my life, the cup is half full.

Your first year of nursing school?

No. I have a more delightfully morbid sense of humor, but no real negativity. [emoji16]

Nursing is hard work, much harder than nursing school, but it did not make me a negative person.

It's school. It's not all (or even mostly) fun. I didn't like nursing school except for OB and my friends I made there. I was a music major though, so even though I literally got less than 15 hours of sleep most weeks because of practicing 5-6 hours a day, concerts, clinical prep, clinicals, studying, concerts, teaching piano, etc, it was enough to keep me happy through the nursing part of things. I know that sounds rotten, but I just didn't like nursing school :) If you've found something else to make you like living and happy, then go for it. If it goes on too long though, as in after you've been working awhile, maybe nursing isn't for you. xo Good luck!

P.S. I'm more cynical about certain pt dx like ETOH, drug use, obese pts, but not super negative. Something always happens to get me in check before I go off the deep end lol
