Has anyone gotten into nursing school with a low gpa?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I really goofed in school when I first started out and the community college here wont let students retake classes. So I have a couple of c's in my prereq's for nursing school. I was just wondering if somone knew of anyone that got in a nursing program at a community college with a gpa of 3.0 or below. Right now I have a 3.0 just in case you wanted to know. Thanks

anyone recently get accepted anywhere?

I too have a low GPA (3.0), anyone in the same boat? I also got a low TEAS score; however, I met the minimum TEAS requirements. It was really great to read this post. I applied to the Spring semester for The Community Colleges of Baltimore County (CCBC). I really hope I make it in. My nerves are a wreck!!! :uhoh3:

Congratualtions on your acomplishments. You will give a lot of people hope here.

The constant pressure of "I've got to get an A in this class" gets old......

In most programs, you DO have to get REALLY GOOD GRADES to even be considered for the program, so...

Luck, Did you get in? Where else did you apply/get accepted?

I got in 2 schools w/ a 3.5 (all the NON-A's were over 30 years ago). But I have a 3.9 and 3.67 in both of those schools now, after I got accepted. The range bounces from 3.5 to 3.9 for public schools (w/transferable credits).

The LPN route lowers it some, and make money too (and wipe a few thousand hineys in the bargain).

Private schools are easier to get in if you have the money (but accumulating public student loans to maximize GPA is as expensive and it takes much longer). So private schools are a good option I should have investigated better (but I want to get undergrad and grad in a couple of years afterwards, maybe).

You just need to talk to the Admin in charge of where you want to go. Random chance is for the birds: it usually won't happen. But if you are in touch every few weeks with the Admin of where you want to go (and many nursing schools have ivory towers where you can't talk to anyone), then you will get all doubts erased.

School is just a persistence game (and I'm working on my 5th of possible 7 degrees). Good luck and just never give up!

I will find out in about 2 to 3 weeks if I got accepted. I only applied to The Community Colleges of Baltimore County, Essex campus.

I know someone who got in with a 3.0..we both applied and at that time I had a 3.0as well. I didn't get in because I had a C in chem...my only C..She had C's in some comp class but all sciences were A or B's.if your bad grades are in science then that's bad but if science grades are good and others and mediocre then you might be just fine.

All of my sciences are B's. I got an A in both of my psych classes and my only C was in speech. All of the rest of my grades are B's.

hi

i cant tell you what a relief all this is

i currently have a 2.91 but will surely have a 3.0 or higher by the end of the semester (im doing pretty well now)

i goofed off in some beginning classes but i've gotten more mature and now i know being an RN is the only thing i can set my eyes on!:nurse:

i intend to apply at the end of this semester for fall of 2011 and i was really nervous i had ZERO chance of getting in

you guys are an inspiration!:heartbeat

No, I did NOT get accepted. I got my rejection letter today! =( However, it wasn't because of my GPA. It was because of a low TEAS score. My head is held high because I get back up pretty easy. I have already made plans for a tutor for the next time I take the TEAS. I plan on rocking the TEAS in about 7 weeks! =)

may I know which university is this?

It is definitely possible though I wouldn't count on such a hope for southern nursing programs.

I go to Rutgers University in Camden and the nursing program there is very competitive. This year there is a new 4-year program in which the nursing dept. actually picked the new incoming Nursing Class of 2014 straight out of high school. I was one of the lucky people to be chosen in this year's new nursing program. Needless to say, we have been through our first semester and already there is 15 spots out of 50 spots to get into the program. People dropped out because of difficulty in science and chemistry which are the two pre-reqs for the next science class in Spring 2011 (Chem II). Needless to say, you have to maintain atleast a 3.0 GPA to stay in the program and for the new applicants, they have to have atleast a 3.0 GPA to even apply for the available 15 spots.

So yeah, having a low GPA is a disadvantage.
