I really goofed in school when I first started out and the community college here wont let students retake classes. So I have a couple of c's in my prereq's for nursing school. I was just wondering if somone knew of anyone that got in a nursing program at a community college with a gpa of 3.0 or below. Right now I have a 3.0 just in case you wanted to know. Thanks

my school (along with the two other CCs in san diego) admits students on a no points, no priority waiting list, which means that as long as you're finished with your pre-reqs & your GPA is above 2.5, you're put on a first come, first served waiting list. it lets people with lower GPAs in, but the waiting list as of now is 2-3 years long. so you might want to look for a school like that while you try to apply elsewhere.
some schools look at more than just GPA, such as healthcare experience, interviews, admissions essays, foreign language, etc.
good luck to you!

My coworker, an LVN, was accepted to Tarleton State University's LVN-to-BSN program very recently with a 2.8 grade point average.

Your school won't even let you take the class again, or they just won't replace the grade? You should be able to take any class as many times as you want. Can you request some kind of admin. review or something? I would be more concerned about not doing well in nursing school if you did so poorly in your pre-reqs. You are going to need all that science background. What about retaking the classes at another school as non-degree seeking student?

I got into a diploma program with a 25 year old 2.4 GPA from my original BS degree as my philosophy then was "C = Degree". I did however, place in the 99th percentile on the NET and get A's in my pre-req A&P courses which helped. I think it really depends on the school.
And I love the program I'm in. Lotta common sense, excellent instructors in class and clinical (for the most part) and a very high NCLEX pass rate.

It's the same here, too. No repeats (also no falures) in the prerequisites and if you take any class more than twice you pay double the tuition.
No they won't let you retake classes at all,you can however replace grades with higher classes(ie english and math). Those aren't the classes I did poorly in the ones I did poorly in were develpmental psych. I'm not concerned about my sciences because I have b's in them A&P and micro. I know I'd do well in nursing school because when I was taking those classes that I did poor in I was partying a lot and wasn't thinking about school. I've grown up since then I know I make an excellent nurse. Thanks for all the responses.

I got in with a GPA of 2.6. I got C's in many of my prereqs and had to retake 1 of them 3 times just to get the C. I graduated and passed the NCLEX.
Congratualtions on your acomplishments. You will give a lot of people hope here.
The constant pressure of "I've got to get an A in this class" gets old......

Well, when you ask yourself what a low GPA is, as they say in statistics, "In comparison to what?"
It depends on what other applicants they have, and what that school considers to be important for admissions.
I've called some schools and they said, "If you don't have a 3.75 or better, it probably won't work for you," never mind the fact the vast majority of their applicants only have 12 credit hours that the 3.75 is based on.
I called others and told them of my GPA, and they are like, "...and what is your concern?". No big deal.

Good for you! This makes me think of my cousin. She had to take college algebra 3 times in order to get a C. She just graduated with an MBA from a top tier university.
I think of these sort of stories when I hear uppidy pre-nursing students saying things like "I don't want someone who got a C in A&P taking care of my mother in the hospital!" Statements like that make me want to say puuuleeeeeeeez.
