Hardest pre-reqs?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I was just wondering what all of you thought the hardest pre-reqs you took were. I am expecting Chemistry and Statistics to be the hardest for me! A & P and Microbiology shouldn't be that hard, I hear they're just a lot of memorization so that's not too bad. A lot of work but I don't mind.

It's so interesting to read what required classes everyone has had to take depending on the college your going to. I sometimes think what a waste of time and what does certain classes have to do with nursing.

My hardest class right now seems to be Algebra, yuck! I'm managing to get through it, but I truly hate it. A&P no problem, will start chemisty in July, should be interesting, and in the fall it will be another load of classes. Micro, A&P II and of course another Math class.

Good Luck~

For me, I would have to say that Pathophysiology was most difficult. Next to Patho, Chem was difficult for me. Good luck!

Wow I don't have to take pathophysiology either... thank goodness! Just Anatomy and Physiology I and II.:D

It really depends on the teacher. I had the worst teacher ever for Anatomy (BLASHCKE @ Fullerton College). She is very smart and knows her stuff, however she makes the class so ridiculously difficult because she wants to "weed" out the "bad" nursing students. The class ended up with 1 A (the guy was repeating the class) 1 B and about 7 C's......... the rest of the 30 students dropped the class.

That's really a shame about the teacher. You would think that she would be doing just the opposite, helping out as much as she can to make those students suceed.

Statistics kicked my behind.......It was the only course I took during the summer session and I struggle every part of the way. I took it a second time and did much better.

BEST OF LUCK!!!

I can see where taking the Ethics class is very important in nursing....I learned so unbelievably much, don't get me wrong....it was just the instructor and HIS book that gave me a headache :uhoh3: But I also heard enough horror stories about other instructors who teach Ethics at our school. And it is my understanding that I could have had it even WORSE

Pathophysiology was definitely the hardest for me.

At my school, Patho is built into the program, but you have the option to take it before you actually start the program. So I took it while waiting to start, and I am glad I did!

For me, Patho was memorizing a lot of diseases and conditions, but it also built on everything from A&P and some from Micro and then applying it, so I felt I needed to review A&P and Micro to make sure I understood everything. Very time consuming!

Luckily I had an A&P 2 and Micro teacher who recognized this issue and tailored our classes accordingly. Pathophysiology is part of our nursing program curriculum. I expect the class to be difficult. I wished I had the option to take it prior to entering the program.
