Hardest EC Exam

Published

I am an LPN going through the Excelsior ADN program. I have completed the following exams: Micro, A&P, LDP, Health Safety, and Transitions. I have passed all with a B, except for A&P, with a C. My question is, which exam did you find to be the most difficult?

don't psych your self out. treat all the exams the same. just give your 100% and you will be fine. good luck with the rest of your nursing exams. you will be done before you know it.

happy new year!!

I thought they all had their difficult spots, then easier spots. Some people are stronger in some of the subjects than others, so anything anyone else says really isn't relevant to your study. Good luck!!! :)

I actually thought Transitions was the most difficult  and enjoyed LS1-3, go figure. I wasn't a big fan or Repro either.

Just as an FYI currently LS3 is the exam that is failed the most but Lunah is right they all have their difficult spots.

Study like you want that "ace" on all the courses and you will be sure to pass the exam plus then your boards will be easier

Good Luck!

imo it was LS2 followed by LS3. the exams are basicaly all the same format, it's just studying the right stuff (assuming you don't get the recommended books). I didn't think sg101 was very good for LS2 or 3, but that's what I had, and there was no way of really knowing that before taking the test.

I got a C in a&p and it plummeted my gpa to a 2.7. damn 6 credit course. I was so overconfident going in because I have a science background that I barely paid attention to the courses. I really wanted to go to NP school and I can still bring myself up I have a lot more nursing courses but I've lost all hope now since nursing is so much harder. Christ help me! Anyone else on the same boat as me striving for that 3?

Specializes in Emergency Medicine.

This is a very subjective question because we all come from different backgrounds and specialty areas. I know many people struggled with the cardio and respiratory stuff where as being a Paramedic i excelled in these areas, this is our bread and butter. OB on the other hand was rough for me seeing as though we do just the delivery portion in the field and never deal with the prenatal care type stuff unless something goes wrong.

LS3 has the highest first time fail rate but I personally didn't think it was harder than the preceding two LS exams. Study hard and you'll pass regardless!!!

What you have to understand about the EC nursing program is that although you are expected to know factual information found within the courses, you have to be able to link that information to specific patient-care scenarios. During my time with EC, I found them to be the masterminds of paraphrasing. You must be able to recognize the question being asked as the same information as in what you studied. For example, if you took any of the practice exams, you may notice that the questions, answers, and the rationales all had a specific response. However, on the real exam, they may have substituted the exact same question with a different culture, situation, or other detail appropriate for the question. In the end, though, it was the exact same question that was asked of you in the practice exams or other study materials. EC notoriously presents their exam questions in the form of patient care scenarios instead of simple black-n-white Q&A's because they are trying to teach you to apply scientific theory as it pertains to patient care. I can only assume they are presenting the courses this way as well since course offerings were not available when I went through in 2009.

My NCLEX exam was so similar to the EC exams that at one point in exams, I actually had to look up at the title to make sure I was given another EC exam instead of the NCLEX.;)

ALLL of them!!! They have all been difficult but I have learned something in each one and I've passed each one so far!!! I expect them to be difficult because it's college and nursing so just study and do your best. I'm doing mine in order but someone told me that you can review the outline and see if its subjects that you know and go with that one first

LS2 and Repro were the hardest for me.
