A few of the docs at my hospital thought that we nurses got our health care free!!!!!! :rotfl:

Yea right, dare to dream. My son had surgery back in January and the hospital sent my account to collections because I was paying $50 a month rather than paying off the whole $1,000 I owed that the crummy insurance didn't cover.

Are you SERIOUS??? I didn't think they could DO that ! I thought as long as you were paying SOMETHING on it, they couldn't harass you ! :stone

How RUDE.

If I get real sick and need to be treated one word--bankruptcy! :angryfire

I work for a non-profit hospital and until last year full-time employees actually could get 'free' health care, so to speak. We get flex dollars depending on how much money we make, and if you picked the cheapest plan (meaning all your care was done at our hospital and with our docs only) it was free or nearly free. Well, you know that had to change! New hospital president, managament layoffs, and our healthcare plans increased about 200% cost in one year! Pretty sad huh?? :crying2:

When I first started nursing, the hospital where I worked absorbed the cost over and above the amount that Blue Cross paid. How many years since that happened?

What I find truly ironic is that instead of using my hospital's offered health insurance, I use my husband's (non-healthcare related industry) insurance because his is so much better. Mine costs more and limits my choices more and pays less.

We have been paying $100 per month on an outstanding bill at the hospital where I previously worked, and they send threatening letters every month. However, my husband was hospitalized since I started at my new job, at the hospital where I am emplyed. We have sent them 2 ($50) payments, and the hospital has refunded those payments back to us. Go figure!!

MDs teat each other and flys and hospitals will give discounts or write it off all together...good business practice...after all they only make about 200 grand a year...don't know how they put bread on the table

Maybe they thought that because of our paultry wages.
